355 Best engine option: rebuild or replace?

I bought a 6000 mile motor from Bruce Wright a few years ago for $9500. It was in perfect condition. Did not have intake, throttle bodies or manifolds. I sold it but gives you an idea of pricing.

 

I agree, unless the car is mostly pristine otherwise (needs mostly nothing elsewhere).

 

This is a very good question that no one seems to be able to answer. Ferrari use very high quality parts and their metallurgy is world class. They have their own foundry! I suspect that it is a combination of two things. Odds are your Ferrari is your dream car; your baby so most owners are highly, perhaps overly pro-active addressing issues. While other can't afford to do hardly any maintenance at all. The second being the aforementioned lack of regular driving. There is likely a 3rd and fourth reason too. Could make for an interesting discussion..

 

Would it be more cost-effective and reliable to rebuild the original motor with a head rebuild and potential bottom-end inspection, or should I install the sourced engine with 40k miles and plan for a 25k investment to fully refurbish it for long-term driving?
