When we test fitted the new clam before pulling anything on the frame rack you can tell the front if over to the left. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Image Unavailable, Please Login One of the joys of hand built cars. The clam is fitted to the headlight buckets so we need to move the bucket over towards the grill then reduce the gap on the outer edges. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Time consuming but it has to be correct. I have another boxer in the shop now that had the front lid replaced and they didn't bother addressing the gaps around the headlight buckets. It looks pretty much like this car does in the before pics. I was getting pretty jealous that you already had parts showing up so quickly. When did this saga start?
Metric steel comes from Toledo Ohio oddly enough, can't get metric steel in Canada that I know of. Dimensions are exact. End of 2022 the car arrived and it took some time to find the parts then of course crating and shipping added to the wait time. The other NOS parts came quickly from Ferrari in Italy. Complete repaint yes, we have yet to be able to match a single stage red in single stage paint. We know we can match single stage if we sprayed base clear but no one wants 2/3rds of their car painted 2 stage and the middle single stage.
The clams are in nice shape, no DOT or damage history. Image Unavailable, Please Login We had to tuck in the clam on both sides so the small gusset was cut out, manually move the sides in and weld the smaller gusset in. Image Unavailable, Please Login The main rear clam supports had to be adjusted in length. New clams lack these supports at all so you have to transfer them. I know it looked horrible and we are used to seeing these cars looking so beautiful but anyone who thought this was a Huge repair cracks me up. Saw one flip in the 90s and seemed totally obliterated,.. it was repaired, seems better than new and the current and previous owner never even knew of the accident! Keep up the great work!
A little more than a belt service while it was out. The initial thought was replace the sodium filled valves but it lead to more. It always leads to a bit more! Looks like the liners have some pitting from coolant or condensation hanging out on them for extended periods?
Pitting for sure but not from coolant, it would be atmospheric. One I did about 6 years ago was a car that lived in Hawaii, all 12 had pitting over the sleeves' entire surface. They cleaned up with a .5mm overbore. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, same valve as a 308. Dinos, Daytona's, 400's etc all had the sodium filled exhaust valves. Im running around with two cars that have them and it does cross my mind every time I drive them.
Pitting of liners, maybe a reason to drive these cars and not let them sit. Beware of very low mile older Ferrari's.
Good day Romano, Here is a pic of my old 308 GT4 sodium valve that failed... and decide to embed itself into the piston. The failure happened coincidentally to a sudden Fall season temperature drop (+5C to -20C) as I was returning home. The entire front bank was damaged... pistons, valves, valve seats, and liners. You can see the hollow portion of the exhaust valve in the 2nd picture. I now use this piston as a desk paper weight ) Cheers, Sam Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
thank you Sam for the photos I wonder about that all pistons, valves, valve seats and liners from the front bank have been damaged because only 1 valve was broken? or does the timing belt also got destroyed? I once had a valve seat from a V 12 colombo engine coming out and there has been only the liner, the piston and of course both valves damaged, but even the inlet valve seat was still ok. a very expensive desk paper weight
