Yes, there will be a readjustment . However it will mean less $$$ to get in a car. And at least in Australia we wont have the WAX ON WAX OFF Tariffs that Donalds doing. We will have stability.

Another thought is the 488 GTB I have cost $600 k in 2018 . The Rear engine Ferrari is well over $800 k now so that will always pull up the second hand market.

True seeing is believing. However we did have Tariffs to protect the local manufacture. It was slowly eased and went to zero.

Same with LCT I wouldn't abolish it over night. I would a planed reduction over a couple of years. e.g 10% every year.

FWIW If they do remove the luxury tax , I wont claim that it has anything to do with Trump. Rather Labor reaching out to another demographic which would be more Liberal to get votes.

Dame I would have voted Labor if he had promised this.

Ultimately a reduction in tax for one thing, will need to be compensated with another..
What will it be? Car registration or stamp duty be likely the ones that will go up?? ..

Yes very true. However LCT is illogical. If its a luxury tax why not on Diamonds , boats , houses etc.

Lots of people work very hard and skill get paid 3/5ths of the proverbial! Not having a go at you, I have no problems with people making good money being clever and working hard, but the one of the reasons the country is in such a mess is the disdain for the ordinary worker.
If you think plumber, carpenter, electrician prices are high now, hold onto your hats! The shortage has only really started to bite; the LACK is a huge wave about to break over us.

By coincidence I got into a field that no one really wanted to get into Resin Chemist. Lets put it this way , it has treated me extremely well :)

I have no disrespect for " ordinary workers " , a lot are my friends.

The tradies are the ones purchasing the Ferraris today.

I always wanted to get my hands dirty. 7 years ago I finished a whole renovation myself with several trades just signing off. Interestingly those trades wont take on any new work as they are involved in big projects and being paid well extremely well.

I needed an emergency plumber for a pin hole. They wanted $1400 ! a job I did and cost me $6.50

I cannot find a shred of evidence that Albanese has mentioned this? None of the links actually include comments by Albanese - pure speculation by some media on the basis that he is negotiating with EU to circumvent Trump tariffs (because it would benefit EU manufacturers - apparently it has been a sticking point in previous negotiations).

Why would there have to be a quote from Albanese for the story to have any credibility?

But at least you agree that if it happens it will be largely because of Trump’s tariffs.

They would be crazy to just scrap it outright, that would piss a lot of current owners off. They will probably have to reduce it over a period of five years or something. Might just be for new cars also, maybe they keep it for the used market.

    Geez you lot are hilarious.

20 posts ago I made the simple comment that points out the link between a possible cancellation of LCT (yay!) with the Trump tariffs.

Even Karen can see this link.

Yet you hard core lefties keep foaming at the mouth at the mere mention of Trump.
And you reckon you don’t have TDS…

Bringing it back locally, what a pleasure it is to see Bandt on the unemployment line.

Of course, it has only happened because Dutton and the Libs had the moral courage to preference the greens last.
If only Labor had such morals, we never would have seen his terrorist supporting, Australia hating ilk in parliament in the first place.

Hahaha! What am I saying? Labor? Lefties? Morals?

    Lol…

I would still be pissed of and I paid it back in 2018.

A gradual decrease to zero would be great and the market will self adjust as seen by covid.

You dont pay LCT on used cars, only new.

Dealers can avoid paying LCT ;) If a new car sits around > 2 years LCT doesn't need to be paid when registering the car for the first time.

The EU talks have been going on way longer than Trump. Even if this cancellation happens, it's a bloody long bow to draw that we could thank Drumpf for it...
As for preferences, it is ALL about 'others' now: https://www.afr.com/politics/federal/how-labor-won-the-preference-war-and-screwed-the-greens-20250504-p5lwfe
BTW, you have a short memory, Libs for years were happy to take Hanson preferences; Dutton still did!
Check out the 2 cards for Duttons electorate and note France put Dutton higher than the nutters while Dutton put Hanson 3rd!!! These kinda tell the story of why he lost...

If you import a used vehicle that is over the threshold, you do pay import duty, LCT and GST. If they suddenly remove LCT from used vehicles there would be people importing used exotic vehicles substantially cheaper than what they were here. The vehicles already here would be priced lower over night. Not good for people who have purchased here or imported and been slugged with the LCT premium.

**** you're a dickheah, Dutton and moral courage, a joke, the whole liberal party

I was happy to see the Greens go and as usual it was left up to the LAB party , the LIBs are so piss weak, couldn't take a seat If they had three people with two chairs in musical chairs :p

Give up while you and your crap party are 50 seats behind

Trump will be lucky to see out his term, you can only avoid the constitution for so long

It goes to show ultimately that the Aus electorate won't vote for a Queenslander I guess. :). But seriously, any politician from outside the NSW/Vic axis struggles to get more recognition, be they from WA, Qld or wherever. Despite much of the country's wealth being generated outside of Vic/NSW...

Steve355 seems to have forgotten the Pauline Hanson 'interlude' in politics. We have a similar problem here with Nigel Farage and the UKIP/then Brexit/now Reform party. In time these groups will crash and burn as the personalities collide with the reality of actually having to do stuff more than make soundbites. Reform has just won a whole bunch of Council seats here in the UK and now control some councils. We've seen the effect of the government by 'frat party' in the USA while the Make America Stupid Again group are in power, but they are fraying at the edges already and we just have to live through it while they implode - hopefully without too much collateral damage...

7;30 has been having a joint interview with Bill Shorten and Christopher Pyne for some weeks and a washup last night - they are obviously mates and the repartee has been brilliant. Pyne has a deliciously deadly humour; he won't of course put down any of the Libs BUT it did make it clear it was the worst campaign EVER.
