I presume you mean economically? As has the whole world... greed is a monster that is devouring the western world.
Yes it is but once one company starts they all do it. FYI 4 liters of an Oil based paint has a raw material cost of only $15 Bunnings. Paint companies selling price 4 times raw material cost. Bunnings margin 100% . And its all consignment. Pay only when its been sold. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It would have been easier for you to just say “I have no idea how the TPP system works…” Bandt lost his seat because the Libs preferenced Labor ahead of the greens. The Lib candidate came third on first preferences, which means that the majority of her votes then went to Labor (provided people followed their how to vote card, which most voters do). That is why Labor won the seat even though Bandt got way more first preference votes. Sheesh. It’s not that hard to understand, is it? Image Unavailable, Please Login
For those banging on about Hanson and claiming her party is irrelevant, they got 6.28% of the primary vote this time compared to 4.96 at the last election. The few people here who understand maths will work out that that is a 26% increase in support from the last election to this one. And why wouldn’t the Libs accept her preferences and vice versa ahead of, say, the greens or teals etc? Labor have relied on those appalling terrorist supporting a-holes for decades in order to win seats. In fact, Labor would not have won a single election this century* were it not for Green preferences, so cut the sanctimonious BS. *Except, perhaps this one. I can’t be bothered looking at every seat. But every time the greens finish third on primaries their votes then go to Labor who often then leapfrog the Lib candidate who more people actually voted for and Labor end up winning the seat.
Here’s an example of what I’m talking about. This seat went from Liberal to Labor entirely because of Green preferences. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Going off topic a bit and quoting myself I would add that I think they will only abolish LCT for low emissions vehicles. Watch this space...
TPP voting system has it's flaws, but the UK has first past the post and non-compulsory voting, so you can get changes with protest votes on quite small turnouts. In the General election last year, Labour won 63% of the seats with 34% of the vote - and less than 30% of eligible people voted in some areas - part of it is apathy and part of it is disillusionment with politics I guess. At least having voting compulsory forces people to engage with the process on some level and is more democratic in that sense. Ultimately though, we have the voting system we have in each place and if you are not happy about something, you have a process to try and change things - lobby your MP, make representations etc etc. Banging away on a forum like this won't change anything despite how clever you may be!
That's how preferential voting works! Greens were 3rd place (and they had nearly 1/3 as many votes as the Libs. so no 'minor party'). It's quite simple really, a portion (but not majority) wanted Libs, but a bigger proportion preferred anyone EXCEPT Libs! (otherwise the 1st preference would have gone to Libs). I'm sure I'm not the only one here who fills their ballot from the bottom - nutters like Hanson and Palmer at the bottom, then the harmless nutters (Animal Welfare and Cannabis etc), then work my way through what's left with preferred at 1, 1st preference 2 etc.
Because any sane person WON'T vote for people like Hanson, or the parties that facilitate them! You prefer Hanson and Palmer over the Greens or Teal? You must have been a Liberal 'adviser' for the last election?
Nice to know your so concerned about poor old Adam... but shouldn't you be more concerned why a large Victorian seat can barely get 20% Lib support?
We only have ourselves to blame... supermarkets (whether food, hardware or carparts) took over because of CONVENIENCE; most won't go the extra dollar or mile to support independents. Very hard to wind back now. I support my local fruit&veg and hardware store as far as possible. Gave up on the bakery when it changed hands and didn't make decent bread.
I like it that you think I'm clever ... never had that label before I like the compulsory voting as it means you can have a whinge because you voted, nothing worse than someone banging on about how bad a govt is and they never voted
In terms of the way you fill in your ballot, I couldn’t agree more. I do it exactly the same way. Greens at the bottom, Labor second last, and work my way from there. The bit that I am struggling with is : why are you directing the start of your post at me as though I don’t understand the system? Did you fail English comprehension in Primary School? I spent half an hour yesterday explaining (with pictures) how the system works - because I understand it, and some people here clearly don’t - and then you somehow manage to put something out there which is both patronising while at the same time agreeing with everything I said. Go back. Read what I wrote, and if you can’t find anything factually incorrect feel free to apologise. I won’t hold my breath.
Because you DIDN'T seem to understand it! You were outraged that Bandt had lost his seat due to preferences - I was just pointing out that's how it works!
