Seeing as the boy is doing ok it's time for him to have his own thread It's 45 years since we've had aa Aussie champ
Things are looking good for him. Hoping he continues to systematically take apart Norris. No big talk off track. Does all his talking on it.
Nice compliments from Windsor-- “When Lando was trying to get past Max to get up to P2, he quickly caught Max but with the tyres now hot and the McLaren in much better shape than the Red Bull, he took too long to pass Max,” Windsor said on his podcast. “Maybe it was because he was a bit daunted by what had happened out of the first corner but it was just a bit more that Lando is a little bit messy - very messy - when it comes to traffic. “Oscar Piastri got past Max Verstappen, absolutely no problem. It took him two laps [and] bang he was gone. “Actually, Piastri induced Max into his second mistake of the race, the first was obviously at the first corner [at the start]. “It was at the same corner where Oscar got the DRS on the pit straight. Max just braked a little too hard again and ran wide and Oscar took the lead. Very very simple. “But Max made no mistakes when Lando Norris was behind him. He didn't feel the pressure.
I like him a lot. He has an old school persona and isn’t effeminate like the others. I’d really like to see the championship go right to the wire between him and Max. I think it would be great to the two of them battle it out given their driving style and personality.
I don't know if Oscar has picked up his pace, or Lando isn't delivering his maximum pace because of mental issues. I still think Lando might be the faster driver but Oscar drives like a champion. He isn't making very many mistakes and he's getting the most out of the car. In 2024, McLaren wasted the best car (sometimes a dominant car), Oscar isn't doing that this season.
Oscar is quickly becoming my favorite current driver. Stays cool, has mad driving talent, doesn’t get phased. Almost like a reincarnation of Raikkonen.
I very much agree, I started to think the same thing a few months ago. That's actually very refreshing: huge talent, no fuss, no prima donna antics, he just delivers...reminds me of the 2005 Kimi a lot. Rgds
45 years, yes indeed, but what a champ; I liked Alan Jones a lot...yes, it is due time for an Australian champ. Might be Oscar's year, who knows? All planets are now aligned; to think that he might have been forced to stay at Alpine... Rgds
