Picked up a 2016 Nero Daytona 488 GTB two days ago. Very happy with the car and it’s worth all the Ferrari hype. I’m coming from a 2017 R8 V10+ which I still own so that is my frame of reference.

Car only had 4300 kms on it over 10 years! How do people pay all this money and let such a beautiful machine sit? I plan to put a lot of miles on it, 550kms already since delivery.

    Some questions for the group

    1. I can’t put the power down in gears 1 & 2 and sometimes 3. Tires are pilot super sports with lots of tread left. I get wheel slip and the TC light coming on in sport mode. 660 hp in a twin turbo RWD Ferrari is not for beginners! Car is stock, purchased from a Ferrari dealer with 3 yrs of warranty on it. Power 15 warranty inspection passed beautifully. Tires at ~25C when I floored it in manual on two different roads. Is this normal?

    2. The exhaust appears valved and opens up around 3200 rpm I believe. I wish it were either always open or closed like my r8. The previous owner had an aftermarket exhaust which I returned to oem because I am an oem guy. But this bugs me especially because in 7th it opens up around 150km/h which is my highway cruising speed so it’s on then off quite a bit on the freeway. Any way to change this so it’s on or off or could there be software from the previous exhaust tune that was missed somehow?

    3. Is there a meshing available or possibly a fitted box with various sized slots for the trunk? I am on a road trip right now with my wife and we either have to have the boot filled so stuff doesn’t fly around or nothing in there at all.

Any tips for a new owner? I’m sure I’ll have more questions later. I am so glad I went all the way and bought a proper Ferrari, what a rush. I thought I wanted a 992 911 turbo S or GT3 but for the same money you can get one of these which I think is the better experience despite my car being 10 years old now.

You can disconnect and bypass the exhaust valves on the stock exhaust so they’re always open.

If you turn off traction control you won’t get the light.

Hoping to find more traction at full throttle in low gears and have that keep the light off

Have you checked the age of the tyres because they could be the originals with that low mileage? If that is the case then they will most certainly be one of the causes of you breaking traction.

What Trev said. This is the first thing to check for sure. If the tyres are ten years old then they will have degraded and it won't necessarily matter if they have lots of tread left. Ferrari owners are notoriously bad for not changing tyres (my Dads 2004 360 Spider is still on its original tyres with 5,000 miles on the car, despite my protestations).

With such low mileage, I'd absolutely bet it's still on its original tyres.

Even though the the tire show a lot of tread they maybe aged out. Rubber gets harder it’s age

you can drop the rear diffuser and pull the rubber hose vacuum line from each exhaust valve plug them and zip tie the up and away and the car sounds better.

ok so the tires are 10 years old - that must be it. Thanks guys.

So here is the situation. I bought the car on consignment from a Ferrari dealer and it had one year of the power 15 warranty left on it. Because it’s such low miles and because you can only add two years when you buy a car from a dealer when the car is under an existing warranty I purchased an additional two years of warranty to have a total of three.

The car had a full inspection including “check that the tires conform to the original specifications of the vehicle” and because the car was at the Ferrari dealer in the show room and because I was adding the two years of warranty and knew the car had to pass the power 15 inspection I did not ask for an additional pre purchase inspection which presumably would have caught the age of the tires.

But tires are a wear item and are not covered by the warranty.

do you guys think I am in the right to go back to the dealer and ask for help from them on a new set of tires or was this a miss on my part?

will this mess with the ecu and throw codes or void my warranty?

Yeah, no, they owe you a set of new tires. In fact Ferrari North America will have their a** if they find out they sold a car with 10 year old tires. They sold you a CPO with aged out tires??? That's insane. These damn dealers make $15K + on a consignment deal and can't bother to put proper tires on.

Your issue is absolutely the age of the tires. They get hard and just grease the road and spin. I went with PS4S tires a tad larger than stock and it' been a dream. Perfect on road and track.

As already said, you've purchased a CPO with tyres well beyond the 5 year age period that tyre manufacturers recommend them being renewed at. And this is regardless of the amount of tread remaining.

I would be straight back to the dealer demanding a new set or else speaking with Ferrari NA.

Always amazes me peeps drive cars with old tires...if they know of course...I won"t do 120+ on a set older than 4 years. My 488 spider had original tires on the front and the backs were replaced at sometime during previous ownership...REALLY? a $275K car and your cheaping out on the only part of the car that touches the road? What's a new set of mps4s? I think I paid $1300 or so? First thing I did was replace those rubbers. Certainly see if dealer will replace for you, can't believe they sold you a certified car with 10 yr tires. disgraceful....btw...mine doesn't break loose at all...

Thanks for the replies guys - I’ll have a call with the salesman I worked with and see about getting them to cover a set. I will say he’s been great to work with so far. They’re the only dealer within a 12 hr drive so I don’t want to sour the relationship but I did feel a chill come over me once I saw they were aged out considering how fast I was driving before I posted…

despite this wrinkle I adore the car. It’s a big step up from the R8 & a finer car worthy of the price difference and also it’s much ‘sturdier’ than I expected- everything feels very well screwed together. It’s a low miles car yes but I’ve now driven 800kms over 3 days including in a lot of rain today and it did great. The drive lived up to the reputation of Ferrari!

    A couple more questions:

    1. Does the car come with a paper manual? Mine didn’t. Maybe I need to push for that too?
    2. I found a digital manual & it lists the regular fuel tank with a 78 litre capacity & a reserve of 16 litres. What does this mean? I got down to one bar on the fuel gauge today and it said I had 130 kms left of range when it gave the warning which seems like a lot.
    3. Is it possible to turn the wipers off in a low speed setting without making them go faster before turning off?
    4. Can someone explain the drs function? The manual seems to indicate the configuration can be toggled but I could not see a way to do this.

    thanks! :)

The car should have a paper manual and it's usually stowed in one of the bags in the frunk.

The car definitely comes with a paper manual, it's very thick and does not really fit in the bag that's in the trunk (mine is in the glove box).
The fuel gauge is not very reliable, as long as you have some remaining range you are OK but you could run out of fuel with one bar remaining (it happened to me once...)
No idea about the wipers to be honest, it never bothered me.
The "DRS" is provided by the moving part in the rear diffuser, its working is fully automatic as far as I know.

Well, I really like the car too....was on a freeway and an AMG v8 biturbo ripped up....challenging me. kinda fun...couldn't do much in traffic but it cleared and I stabbed it...left him...hopefully jaw dropped and hit 138...my son was in the car first time...he's 27...yikes...I was a little awed myself...fun stuff. Obviously slowed right back down...enjoy your Ferrari buddy!

IMO, the dealership is 100% responsible for providing a CPO car that has safe tires. And 10 year old tires don’t meet this requirement. I’d be kinda pissed.

Regarding the exhaust sound/valve, just switch it to Race on the manettino and it’ll stay open. Since you’re a warranty and OEM guy like me, this is the simplest solution. And no, you won’t regret driving around in the Race setting. All the nannies are still present; the car doesn’t suddenly become less controllable.

    Congrats on your car!

So far I have gotten a lot of respect on the road - one group of bikes was egging me on but it was my drive home after delivery so I drove fast but didn’t race them. One came up by my window & gave me the thumbs up. Reactions so far have all been positive but I’ve only had it 4 days / 800 km.

This is great intel thanks for sharing. I am somewhat reluctant to leave the valves open all the time b/c the car cruises so well on the highway with no noise below about 155 km/h before the valves open in 7th. I have not tried race mode much at all & especially not since I checked the tires but this may be the way. The few times I did I was above 3500 rpm so did not notice the valves. Will give it a go the next time I’m out thx again.

I’m the same, in every one of mine, I’ve never driven in anything but race mode. Maybe two or three times I got caught in heavy rain, I went to wet mode and maybe two other times, I tried C/T off for a short while. The rest of the time over 20 years, I’ve been in race only
