You need more shade to wash the car properly!

Not a game changer but it’s a big improvement over just your stock blower end.

 

It’s just a shorter nozzle to replace the long one that typically comes on leaf blowers. Makes it more wieldy around a car and has a rubber lip in case you bump it against the paint. Obsessed Garage has them but you can also get them off Amazon or Etsy.

 

The biggest thing is don't buy the crap from autozone.

 

Ironic you posted this as I got caught in some rain two weekends ago and had to do the same thing last Saturday! I was super nervous to scratch my paint as it's in extremely good condition.

Luckily Adam's Polishes is a 15 minute drive from my house. So some mega foam shampoo, a couple buckets, a foam gun, and a drying towel later and still not a single scratch. I have a leaf blower, but my air compressor was perfect for getting water out of body lines or collecting areas.

The drive immediately following a wash..... she just drives different!

 

If you did a proper ceramic coating on it and/or if you have PPF film, you won't scratch it.... just don't insist too much with the brush/mits/whatever you use.

I prefer a boar hair brush, its super soft when soaked a bit, never scratches anything. The brush moves away the particles, rolling them in soap. The sponges tend to drag them over the surface, hence can create scratch/hair lines.

 

I have full ppf front and undersides, and rear bumper... The only place I need to be careful is doors , rear upper shoulders and top. But then I have 3 layers of ceramic coating, so.... no problemo.

 

Boar’s hair will 100% introduce marring on paint, whether you’d like to believe it or not. That type of brush should only be used on wheels.

 

So what brush do you use ? This is the softest I found, and trust me I tried many brushes... Maybe we're not talking about the same thing... This has very long hair which becomes super soft when soaked in water for a few minutes?

 

I never use a brush of any kind on painted surfaces other than wheels. A clean, microfiber sponge (I’ve been using the Microfiber Madness Incredipad) and two buckets should be all you need. More stubborn things like tar, bugs, etc may require better chemicals but still shouldn’t need scrubbing or brushes

 

Been watching a ton of detail shows on YT, mostly out of boredom and because I like all those grungy restoration videos. I've since become a believer of pre-wash. I use Carpro Lift in a pump sprayer and wet down the area I'm going to start with before going to just a clean pressure wash. It makes a huge difference in how much dirt the pressure washer can get out. Leaves a cleaner surface for when I go to the foam/wash step so have way less chance of getting any grit or dirt on my mitt. I like the Korean microfiber wash pad for the longer fibers and nice lift away from the paint.

There are other brands, but that one in particular is a small business with good service. I'd rather give them the money than a larger Amazon product.

 

I think I recognize those mountains in the background. Is your neighborhood just outside of Lihue heading towards Poipu?
