I know I am going to pay for posting this because that's how my life works, but when I bought my QV in Sept 97, the wp failed as I - LITERALLY - was pulling in my driveway bringing it home from Atlanta that first day.

I bought the "upgraded" wp unit from Rutland's and put it on the next weekend. It is still on the car.

I have absolutely no earthly idea what is upgraded in that thing vs stock but whatever it is it has proven itself. No question about that.

It is still fine as far as I know, no leaks etc, but just given the time now, almost 30 years, I really need to replace it. I hate to but this is not the kind of thing I need failing from age when I am away from home. I am going to buy Nicks. I have no problem paying for quality.

I suppose that allows for longer surface contact time in any given area to absorb more heat as the water passes thru

@lopena and @26street I am in Memphis. There was a shop here I have used but it has been several years. I am going to see if he is still open. If not I will be sending it up that way. Thanks.

I have been trying to run most of the gas out of the car for when I move the left tank. It dawned on me If I jack up just the left side after the flush the little gas I have may run to the other tank. I dread doing that heater hose.

I think it may affect cavitation as well.

I pressure tested my system to see if I had any leaks I needed to deal with before I started. It held pressure fine. So hopefully the heater hose and address the radiator.
I do find this odd. It looks like my radiator has a leak but as I said it holds pressure and does not get wet.
I hope to start next week. I would like to make it to a C&C on the 4 Saturday. Anyway Thanks everyone for all the help and guidance.

Do yourself a favor and get an airlift tool to put the coolant back in. That will not only tell you if you have a leak but will prevent air pockets. These cars get them kinda bad without one.

I'm sure it would. I would contact the seller just to make sure.

I did have to add a "collar" on mine because the mounts for the original fans were a little too big and it was just too loose in there for my liking so I went to home depot and got some metal collars with rubber... removed the rubber and that was enough to make it nice and snug.

Is your car a GT4? I took a close look at my QV and would imagine I would have to remove the front spoiler and possibly the bumper to get the fans in. Thanks!

No my car is a 308 so completely different. I needed to remove the bumper and front grill. Didn't have to remove the lower spoiler though.

You can install those spal fans in a 308 with just removing the grille. No need to remove the spoiler or bumper. It's a tight squeeze, but you can do all the work through the grille opening

Those look like the Spal A48-12S fans. I think they are a good option of you want something that looks really original. They use the same size and shape fan blade with the main visual difference being the blade and motor housing are black. Here is my cooling fan journey https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/retrofit-spal-30100320-cooling-fans.679261/

Why wouldn't you remove the bumper? It's what... four bolts? Or eight? Then you have all the room you need. I definitely wouldn't want to try to maneuver around that tight space for no reason.

Today i put two bottles of Liquid Moly flush in the car and took it on a slow 30 min drive. I found the temp sensor doesent work so I jumped the fans. When I got home I let it idle for 5 min, the temp barely got above 195 with the stock fans.
All kinds of nastiness came out of the system. I refilled the system and flushed it about 5 times, running it for a minuet or two between flushes. I finally got clear water out. I didn’t climb under and open the block bleed valve. I pressurized the system to get all the water out. Tomorrow I will open the block bleed to make sure I got it all.. Along with a new temp sensor I am installing a new thermostat so when I was flushing it I removed the thermostat to get a better flush.

It looks like some of the heater hoses have been replaced.

Not a good picture all of them between the heater cores are new.

So question. Should I go through the trouble of changing the heater hose?
It looks fine and is not leaking but it is a 1978 308. I know I am wimping out but I really don’t want to drop a gas tank and mess with it if I don’t need to.

I did it without removing the bumper. In fact it was so simple, taking it off never occurred to me. But you are correct, bumper removal is simple and quick
