I recently for the escort M2 as an add on to my purchase. It’s hardwired and dealer did all of it. So far not a fan simply because of how it works via the app. Noticed how some entire rides did not record. Still new to me, still figuring it out.

I got a 70mai bare bones model for like 30usd and Hardwired it myself

Only thing I need this for is *touch wood* for evidence in case there's a collision

Honestly I think a rear cam is basically useless for this purpose, if you get rear ended your front can will provide plenty of evidence of this anyways and getting license plates means nothing. Even early 2000s potato camera quality will be enough to demonstrate who is at fault and generally what happened.

For me in particular I also have a convertible so wiring a rear cam is more annoying so I just said fk it.

This is the one I got

The quality is just "normal" but you don't need mission impossible level 12k quality to show someone hit you when you were stopped at a red light or that they swerved into your lane.

If you want the camera to pull double duty and take high quality driving shots then that's an entirely different usecase and if that's what you're after, by all means go crazy and get something in the several hundred dollar range.
