Now you need to empty the bottle and see how much the empty bottle weighs.

Great idea. I think I will start using that with my wife about the wine bottle. ;)

Reviving an old thread here - hope that's not bad form?
I'm gathering 'stuff' to do an oil change on a 2008 599 in California. This need for an oil additive has got me all anxious.
Last time the oil was changed, by Tony at Modena Motors (totally skilled/experienced independent in SF Bay Area), he used RedLine 10W-60 and "Fac.Eng. oil PAO additive". Therefore I'm researching how to repeat that in 2025 seeing as that recipe has worked perfectly ever since.
RedLine, no problem - in stock.
But the additive - It seems the Tutela, or the Petronas version, no longer exists. I found a post saying that Ferrari requested Pakelo to make the PAO (Polyalphaolefin) additive - which they did, listed in USA here. https://fse-la.shop/products/pakelo-oil-599-pao-engine-oil-additive-1-liter
But they're out of stock, so far with no update on when it might be back in stock. They also suggested that their 10W-60 racing oil: https://fse-la.shop/products/pakelo-oil-krypton-racing-sae-10w-60-1-liter doesn't need the additive because it's "PAO based". Not sure what I think about that, but decent suggestion.
The only other proposal I've seen is for LiquiMoly 1017 "Visco Stabil" which is no longer available from LiquiMoly, but does appear on a few euro sales sites.
The most promising looking USA item is LiquiMoly 20004 "Hydraulic Lifter Additive" https://www.liqui-moly.com/en/us/hydraulic-lifter-additive-p000004.html#20004 - but with very little info available that I could find. Is that the same stuff as 1017? It's "promising" because the whole point of using an additive is for lifter-clatter.

Finally to my question then: What do my fellow 599 owners use in 2025? Thanks for any suggestions/opinions.

    Hi Richard
I can confirm that Ferrari HO recommends Pakelo..
I have 2 GTBs (one since 2015) and I have used Tutela, then Liqui Molly and now Pakelo.
Both Tutela and Pakelo are recommended by Ferrari. Not the case with LiquiMolly, although it is a good product too.

My personal experience is that you need less amount of Pakelo compared to Tutela.

Here I send you pictures of the can .
I buy this part from Ferrari Maranello.

I have an unopened bottle of Tutela FVI. I traded my 599 for an F8 and do not need the FVI I have. PM me if you are interested.

My guys have used Red Line for years in my 599. Yes sometimes I can hear the cam chains knocking but it goes away once the car comes to temperature. I hear nothing but good things about Tutela but I've never felt that I needed it.

Thanks everyone for the replies. A little extra information... I wrote to the Pakelo USA distributor (Houston) who told me they were out of stock on the 599 PAO additive but expected to be back in stock in about 4 weeks. He also re-iterated the idea to use their 10W-60 since it's also PAO. i.e. same info as the LA dealer (FSE)

F3rn4nd0, thanks for the info/pictures. I searched the Maranello Classic Parts website (assume that's who you meant?) and they have a few Pakelo products but not the 599 additive - I'll call them tomorrow to check. It would be great if Ferrari could test/recommend the LiquiMoly product but I guess that's not a priority for a car that ceased production over 10 years ago.

George, I've seen that opinion a lot, and I do wonder why this additive is necessary on only this engine. I guess I'm mainly trying to reproduce the recipe that's worked for me since my first oil change.

and Steve, yes I'll PM you, thanks for the offer.

    Hi Richard.
    I'm based in Europe.
I refer to Ferrari Head Office in Maranello.
The other model that needs Tutela/Pakelo too is the Enzo.
Lets not forget this is a detuned Enzo engine.

quick follow-up - I heard back from my local Ferrari dealer and they have some of the Pakelo additive in stock. About $40/can, with 1 can needed per ~12L oil change.

    Thanks for the help/suggestions above.
