550 Fuse Board Options

    The subject of replacing and improving of the Maranello fuse board seems to be something of a constant, and with time this issue will presumably become increasingly relevant.

    There seem to be several options, at wildly different costs.

    1.

    Our fellow poster [email protected] list his approach at 800€, tho I haven't found a consultable web-site with details and specification.

    Were these perhaps the same boards that were retailed by https://redbaycars.com/ at one point ?

    No sign of them anywhere that I could find within their website today.

    2.

    i3-engineering offer a very convincing and complete "Swiss" solution here

    at a somewhat "Swiss" price of 2.623€, tho' this does include the housing as well as the board, and comes complete with a full set of appropriate relays.

    G.T.CarParts in Arizona offer what sounds like a good solution here

    at a cost of 1.020€, requiring supply of you original core.

    Does anyone have recent experience of any of these, and are there perhaps other approaches that I've not stumbled across yet ?

    PS And how finicky are the Ferrari Classiche inspections as regards stuff like non-original fuse-boards ? Ed - installed to address the appalling quality of the originals ;-[[

    The internals of the boards are completely invisible. No one is going to notice the differences except in rare cases when it comes to diagnosing power defects. I doubt Classiche inspections even look at the relay panels.

    I have a board from @theunissenguido They are fantastic and incredibly well built. He was great to work with as well. Can't recommend them enough.

    For Classiche, I have no idea. I dont believe they dig that deep, but visually his boards do differ on the fuse holders, otherwise there is no difference when dressed and installed.

    Ah, so you can see the circuit board material in the fuse area. Anyway, do the Classiche inspectors even remove the fusebox cover?

    Actually before Im proven wrong, I mistyped, I have no idea how deep Classiche goes. I was thinking of what i have read for judging and shows.

    You can see the fuse holders because I use bigger connectors than OEM. So, the protection covers cannot be put again. Some owners did have the patient to cut those protection covers in a way that they can be put back...in my view not needed.If you really want to protect those fuse connectors, you can use a ring of rubber (old bice tire) over them.

    Do the protection covers have fuse numbering on them or do you have to use the Owner’s Manual for that anyway?

    No numbering, but you can put a number yourself above each fuse on the black trim of the housing.

    Do you make one for a 550 and what sort of time frame for delivery?

    He has shipped a 550 for me…I can post up when I get it.

    He has been attentive on communication, and the timing was very reasonable so far.

    And FWIW my impression (so far) of what he is asking also seems reasonable.

    I should add that my mechanic wanted me to use GT Parts in AZ. My car came with the original fuse panel in box which we would have had to send as a core or a rebuild BUT I’m not sure the one I had would have been suitable.

    I trust @Aerosurfer and @Auraraptor as friends and their experience helped me go the route I did.

    Yes as alluded to I have @theunissenguido boards for both my 512TR and 456M.
    The quality is a no brainer in comparison to OEM. I dont have direct personal experience with the other two options.

    Do not forget, use only the screws to put this motherboard in place. Do NOT use the white plastic washers that are on the original board.
    Those white washers you use between the back cover and the housing for some ventilation.

    When you want to protect the fuse holder connections on this board, you can use an old bici tire. Cut and glue it in smal rubber rings and put them around the 2 connectors for each fuse.

    Not a good idea...when the fuse connectors get hot, those heat shrink tubing is going to shrink more and could break the solder points. Better a rubber ring that is flexible.

    I had mine done at GT Car parts, also looked at Scuderia Rampante, but they were very expensive and I couldn't discern the additional value for the price. I also added in the Ricambi fan wiring harness this year

    I replaced the fuse board in my 456 GT with the GT Car Parts board. It’s visually identical to the original, and my car passed Classiche certification with the new board installed—no issues at all.
    I’ve included photos of my original board (inside and out) and the new GT Car Parts board. I also replaced every fuse and relay during the process. In addition, I installed Aerosurfer’s fan wiring harness, which is very well made.
    After 1,000 miles of driving, everything is working perfectly. No electrical issues to report.
