The best 19 inch wheels for the 355 are the ones that look the most 18’s . Hence the reason most opt for step lip 19’s to maintain the smaller 18 inch face. Still have to look at the spoke design. BBS LM’s still look big from a certain angle. My buddy has 19 inch BBS LM’s and they look bulky to me. If you compare a 19 inch vs 18 inch BBS LM alone (off the car), the 19’s look better. The 18’s just look like the spokes are too short for that particular mesh look. Problem is when you put them on a sleek/slender car like the 355, it just looks bulky. Looks fine on a BMW sedan though. My buddy is a BBS LM fanatic. He has an assortment of Ferraris and Porsches (about 10 of them) and they’re all running 19 inch BBS LMs. It’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen lol. The wheels work on some cars… not all.
Here are some 19 inch Work wheels which have a smaller spoke design. These probably look the most okay to me at standstill for 19’s, but still look huge rolling. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just look at how much more sleek the 964 in the background looks with smaller wheels. It’s not that much smaller of a car either. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here are 18’s in motion for comparison. You guys love hard parking low, but when you’re actually driving, your car is high as hell. Makes no sense to me. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Definitively not 18" wheels on this picture! Look how low profile the rear tire is. This is not a 265/40/18 tire for sure. Looks like 19" to me.
I can’t really find good full still pics of this car. Who knows, could be a 19/18 setup. This is definitely one of the less bigger looking 19’s if it is. Looks good here. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
My not-so-humble opinion: cars like the RX7, the NSX, or your college GTI were all built with many more compromises for everyday drivability than the 348/355 including the specs of the wheels and tires. This leaves lots of room for improvement in the aftermarket. Hence, these cars look good “on rims”. Not so much on the Ferraris. I’ve put big wheels on kinds of cars for *30 years* and it’s my conclusion, after trying many combos on my 348, that stock can’t be beat. Same goes for the 355.
Those wheels are 19" Fifteen52 Super Touring Chicane. They look like an upgraded version of the Challenge wheels. Untrained eyes will think this is stock, but feel there is something different... better. Now guys, tell me they don't look good on this 355: Image Unavailable, Please Login (of course you will ) Perfect stance. Not too low, just right. For me 19" wheel size is the best choice aestheticaly speaking. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Do they look good in those pics? Yes. Ngl. Would I put a cheaply made $225 wheel with fake center locks ment for a Ford Focus on my 355? No. No i wouldn’t.
That’s not too bad . Those are based off OZ wheels on the Mclaren F1 GTR, which only comes in 18’s. These are real racing/motorsport wheels. Wheels these days on exotics are more like fashion wheels. Real racing wheels look odd on thinner tires to my eyes. Spokes tend to be shorter. They look cute and small because they have one job … to be light and quick. It’s more of an equipment piece … like a spoiler. Somewhat of a fashion statement, but more function than form. It’s only there to compliment the looks and theme of the car, not there to fight for attention from the car. It’s a balancing act and bigger wheels tend to tip toe on that fine line. The million dollar question is, if a Mclaren F1 doesn’t need 19 inch wheels to look good, should a 355?? Are these 18’s or 19’s? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
They're also the wrong width. Too wide on the front, too narrow on the rear. Would I put a cheaply-made wheel with fake centre locks ***and ruin the handling*** of my 355? No. No, I wouldn't.
Super low profile rubber band tire setups are very old school. There isnt enough room on a 348/355 for a 20” wheel for sure, 19” is really pushing it and both such a compromise that offer no performance benefit. Except maybe more high performance tire options that don't come in 18”.
Outside from the fact these wheels have the wrong width, the 19 inch face is one of the better ones. Someone is working on 19 inch challenge style wheels if that matters. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I still prefer the “slick and quick” profile of 18’s. They feel more real period racing to me. It’s not so much about filling wheel gaps etc.. It’s about whether the car looks more expensive. When I was young and broke with a $30k car, spending a few months paycheck on $5k wheels was a quick way to turn your grandmother’s car into something cool to fit in with the cool kids. I get it. I still have an eye for this stuff because I played this game in my youth. The cars we were messing with are bland in comparison to a Ferrari. A 240sx is a bland car and rims help spice things up. Heck, some people were buying cars to put on their rims. The rims were more important than the car. If you saw 10 cars stanced out with 19/20 inch BBS LMs… the cars start looking the same because the rims take 80% of the attention from the car. The Ferrari 355 is a $200k car. The hell would I put more attention on $5k rims? The car itself is what looks good and that’s where the focus should be. The wheels should compliment the theme of the car, not outshine the car. Ever see an exotic car (like a 355 for ex) on a lift with no wheels on and think to yourself, “wow, this looks like a race car” ? That’s because the silhouette and profile of the car are very race car-like. Wheels are actually a distraction. Put wheels back on the car and back on the ground and the car now looks toned done. That’s because wheels change the look depending on the theme of the wheels. Wheels can mess it all up. Hence, I prefer wheels that take a step back and let the car’s silhouette and body lines do most of the talking because that’s actually the expensive part of the car. The wheels play a role in the story, it’s not the main character. It’s Robin, not Batman. It’s Pippen, not Jordan. It’s only there to accentuate the story line. Why do you think people buy $5m La Ferraris with black wheels? Because when the car is in motion, the wheels disappear into the abyss and all you see is silhouette and body lines. The same effect of putting the car back up on the lift. Race car.
