I needed to clean and regrease my handbrake as it didn't come fully down anymore. Now that i want to re-assemble the leather cover and the trunk release-lever. The lever doesn't fit anymore. The cable is too long for the location where i need to fixate the lever. What could have happend? Because i didn't change anything to the cable except only disconnecting from the lever. And when i test the cable by closing the trunk and pulling on the cable, it is still working properly to open the trunk. So what could have happend? Or do i need to find out how to adjust the cable lenght on the trunk-end? You can see the lever standing upright when the whole assembly is held in place only by the cable pushing.
The “ lever “ case is held down with a screw . You have to lift the handle up a bit to get a screw driver on this screw . It clamps the whole thing down / flush . To pull , reset the handle just go to trunk and pull the wire through with pliers . Then adjust it all . Use a screwdriver to close the jaws during testing . When you are happy it unclicks and the handle drops back or clicks and the handle sits flush . Then close the deck and test it .
Hi Portofino, Thanks for the explanation! Lever case held down with a screw and flush when mounted, i knew. It is the reset-procedure i'll test tomorrow. So first i'll mount the handle like normal (flush with the leather). And then go to the trunk and pull the wire (2 wires in fact) with pliers. And test it. It is that i didn't knew you could pull the 2 wires to put tension on them. Thanks already in advance!!
You probably pulled the cable, together with its sleeve, towards the location of the handle assembly while working there. Find a way to pull, or push, the cable sleeve back a bit.
There doesn't seem to be any pulleys in the system. I thought it might have slipped off a pulley. https://www.eurospares.co.uk/Ferrari/355/355_(5.2_Motronic)/PartDiagrams/120/Opening_Devices_for_Rear_Hood_and_Gas_Door
As far as i can remember i didn't pull on the cable sleeve. But for the sake of knowledge: Suppose i pulled the cable sleeve. How can that result in the cable being"too long now"?
If there is a bend somewhere in the cable (I'm sure there is) on the way to the lock at the back, pulling the cable (and its sleeve) could have straightened the bend a bit resulting in the cable being "longer" at the opening lever.
Went to the car today. Think i need to lift him up on a car bridge. I found the retainer thing (reacheable trough the hole in the latch) at the latch end. Loosened it and try to bring the cable up to tension so the latch would stay down. But without succes. It is all starting to look like there is some sort of looping in the cable which i have to check over the complete length on a car bridge now. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Pull the wire tail out marked with black arrow - it’s tucked in . There will be two : see the bolts on the rhs of the pic . Find which one goes to the latch by the seat and adjust / pull that .You need a tiny hex key to tighten it up . Use a screwdriver as a rod to click the latch closed while testing ( with the lid open ) once happy all is correct drop the hood / lid . Obviously test / adjust the emergency ( second wire ) while at it .
Yes i all did that yesterday (including loosening that strap with a tiny hex-key. But pulling the cable didn't change a thing. So that's why i need to inspect the full trajectory of the cable that's going to the seat.
