A decade later there was still the odd Countach for sale in the $80k area.

I have a basement full of old, boxed up DuPont Registry, Cavallino & Ferrari Market Letter magazines.

Fun to look through every now and again.

Absolutely, I spent maybe an hour just casually browsing this issue and it brought me back to a better time. I miss those days. The pre smart phone, social media, flat touchscreen in everything days.

It’s all relative. SP500 in 2003 was at ~1,000 vs today at ~6,000, plus dividends. $377k invested in sp500 in 2003 would be around $2.7m today, roughly equivalent to the F40. The F40 surely a more fun investment but also comes with maintenance costs, insurance, etc.

Basically this is all just a function of inflation and the USD constantly losing value over time.

Good point. I guess the difference would be $2.7m or $2.7m + 22 years of memories in an F40

I tried to get dad to buy a Countach for $60k. I found a Mondial for under $15k.

Amazon stock was $2 in 2003

Apple though: 376k of Apple would be over $36MM today! 0.22 to 210.

Sure…. Ex-Japan auction. A friend recently bought it and then changed his mind when it arrived here in Dubai. Wait til you see my $20k Testarossa and my $35k Countach (project cars).
