Patrick Head was a good Designer, but not great..... he had a lot of really good young talent around him when he designed/ built great cars.... he was good at keeping the team together for sure.

Very true. Forghieri is up there, but he was not a design innovator like Chapman or Newey or Murray. Ross Brawn does not get as much credit either... mostly for the Brawn GP car vs. his Ferrari work. Forghieri's 312 series in the mid - late 70's is really his hallmark. they were not the absolute technical limit, but they were well built, well designed and reliable. won Championships, in 75, 76, 77, 79... the Turbo years kind of caught him out . He was certainly a quirky guy. He is however one of the only car designers who also did engines... I think that his real legacy is the Flat 12 F1 engines.

As much as I was impressed by Mauro Forghieri, he wasn't alone.

I think Carlo Chiti was the same; designing chassis and engines (complete cars in fact!) at Ferrari, ATS and Alfa Romeo.

What about Giotto Bizzarini who apart from chassis work at Ferrari designed the first V12 Lamborghini.

That breed of eclectic Italian designers is gone.

Byrne kicked his arse whenever they went head to head

You guys are too quick to jump on the scuderia, remember MS took 5 years to get to the top with the dream team, Todt was the first piece in the puzzle like Vasseur, then good drivers, then Byne with the best car ..... give these guys time

Please don't put Kelly Johnson and Newey in the same sentence, Newey is a dickhead compared to Kelly, a true genius

Kelly J is a once in a thousand lives person. What he did with the SR71 makes today's F1 look like soap box. He had to invent the materials, machines and methods to do what was never able to be done.... with a slide rule and a literal bag of cash.

The CIA made up a scam company to buy titanium from russia to build the main structure and the leading edges. BALLER. Maybe Ferrari needs to get them some of that mentality. Race to win FFS. I wonder if the engine debacle has made them gun shy.,

Actually, the leading edges or periphery of the plane were triangles made of "plastic" (silicone and asbestos) to absorb radar frequencies and give the plane its stealth capabilities.

I'm with you on this as well - Alonso is toxic - like radioactive to any team .... still to be seen at Aston Martin

I can't think of anyone on the grid who would want to leave where they are and become the Ferrari team principal. The good days for Ferrari are over and we all know it. As for the drivers, Charles is now just another coulda-shoulda-woulda but didn't, as a Ferrari driver. He can offer nothing to any of the other teams but a big hole in their bank accounts. Lewis is an over ripe piece of fruit about to fall from the tree. The big question is which driver will join Sky first as Danica's replacement.

Well, well: as usual the same ones that ask for "stability", that say "I´m the voice of Buddah in this shark pool..." are the first to ask for some head cutting. "Monday engineers", as the Old Man said.

Some say that picking Vasseur was a bad idea because he came from Sauber. I´ll judge Vasseur for his results, not from his past, but if I had to judge him by his past, he has a better curriculum than Horner, who had not done anything at F1, or Wolff, who was a businessman and (average) ex-driver. Montezemolo was a lawyer.

Vasseur took a team that was not winning and made it a little better. It´s not a great improvement but I´ll give him some more time. Not a lot more time but a bit more. This season has not started well but still has not ended. Let´s not forget that this is Cardile´s car, who left mid season to Aston Martin. Fixing it is going to be a good hability test for Loic Serra.

Anyway, if you want to change Vasseur, I wouldn´t go for Horner. He hasn´t ever been outside of Red Bull, a particular and protected team, and even then he had trouble controlling Marko. Now he has to build a team without Newey and already is struggling. Who knows if he would be able to work outside that enviroment. I´d more interested in bringing back Andrea Stella. He already has been at Ferrari and currently he´s beating Horner soundly.

I’m sure it’s Horner who started this ridiculous rumor as he knows he’s about to get axed.

Indeed, one can even look at Flavio Briatore who wasn't interested in motor racing (he attended his first race at 38 !).
Flavia was trusted to look after the commercial side of the F1 team the Benetton family had just bought from Toleman.
He applied business logic, soon took over the management to efficiently steer the Enstone team to 4 WDCs over the years !
I fear Vasseur isn't of the same cloth.
