My 2002 Gated 575m with FHP has developed a Leak in left rear shock at 111,000+ miles. In reviewing old threads, seems like no difference with standard 575. Still true? Are new replacements available or do I need to go with rebuilds? If I replace the rears should I do all four? Any other advice appreciated.

Forgot to ask, any potential damage to suspension driving with a leaking rear shock?

    no diff

    the FHP controls the shocks

the place that rebuilds them is in CA? should pull up on a search

leakage: i guess it depends how much fluid is left.... but if it's going to get rebuilt not sure it matters unless it somehow causes damage to something else.

Affirmative, no difference in FHP and vanilla shocks and no difference in shock absorber ECUs. FHP has nothing to do with the shocks except in Europe where they are set for a lower ride height. Replace in pairs. If you want to go with late/HGTC shocks, you also need all new shock mounts.

Only rebuild service I remember seeing was in eastern Europe.

I had the rear shocks rebuilt on my 550 back in 2014. I live in the UK and ThyssenKrupp Bilstein GmbH had their workshop / technical centre here and offered a rebuild service back then. They are still at the same address, 7 Vitruvius way, Meridien Business Park, Leicestershire, LE19 1WA, England, but am not sure if they still offer the rebuild service.

I was under the impression Delta V rebuilds them, assuming they’re still around…?

This thread ended up being timely for me as I just heard from Ferrari Of Washington and one of my front shocks is leaking “pretty well” haha!

Don't want to start another thread so....At this service, mentioned was made that the oil pump chain needs service. I have noticed recently an increase in vague mechanical noise from the engine. I'm very paranoid about bearing noises associated with the cam belt system but this noise has been more subtle than my prior bad bearings. If oil pump chain is replaced, should I have the two bearing associated with the chain drive replaced as well? Is the oil pump chain accessed via the front cover associated with the cam belts? Belt service was done '02 so not needed now but if exposed, should I have belt tension checked?

    Stephen:

My 2002 575M suffered a failure of one of the oil pump drive bearings at less than 40,000 miles. Luckily it was discovered before it destroyed the engine (a mechanic heard ‘an unusual noise’). So, yes, you should check them.

    Good luck,

My '02 "ate" a cam drive bearing at 2 1/2 years of age and 10,000 miles. Various cam drive bearings have been replaced at least three times; hence my paranoia.

Note to 550 owners. 575s do not have Bilstein shocks, thank goodness. Delta Vee never did Sachs shocks, as far as I know.
