I recently installed a new tank sender from AW Italia as shown in the photos below. My original was so rusted and messed up but it actually still worked but I did not want the rust getting into the fuel system. The replacement unit I got looks similar in design to the original and it seems it can only go into the drivers tank in one orientation.

I noticed AW sells another sender which looks different and I wonder why someone would use this over the other.

when I turn the key on the gauge moved 1/4 inch and has not moved since. I put 15 gallons of fuel and still no movement. Anyone here have any ideas on trouble shooting this, maybe the float is stuck inside the tank? It was a PITA to get the sender to go in and line up wit the mounting studs on the tank

It look like a universal thing....so float hitting something it the tank and float arm needs a little bend to fix maybe?

+1 to mk e's thought. If the mounting stud are a symmetric pattern, did you pick the orientation that gives the most clearance for the float swing and/or do a rough check to see if any orientation had enough room for the float swing? That other one (with the two piece float arm) implies the float arm length is adjustable/customizable (but can't see how the float arm joins on the one you got to see if that might also be adjustable).

the strange thing is when I installed this sender it only would fit one way as the baffles inside the tank prevented any other position

Im going to remove it and do a simple test outside the tank to see if the gauge registers then i will try to do a slight bend on the float arm

If you take the float back out of the tank, then hook up the wires, turn on ignition switch and move the float and see if the gauge register or move

Did you shorten the lever arm so the float doesn't contact the fuel tank wall or baffle?

Years ago I bought a Dino and found the fuel gauge to be working well except it would never drop below one third tank and stay pegged there.
I removed as suggestion above and I found ALL range worked at dry.

When I reinserted into tank I found there was only one way it fit with full range working, rotated ONE position from where was!.
Six top scews but only one mount rotation works.

I wonder if your sender does hit the wall of these small tanks for fuel?

Can you call AW and ask for advice? Mine came from superformance and the lever arm was adjustable. I adjusted to about 6 inches so the floar would clear the tank walls and baffles but still had a reasonable amount of float range. Took a lot of fine tuning and I hope I did it right. I haven't tested it yet because I haven't put gas in yet since I'm still refurbishing the car.

the problem with calling any of these parts vendors is that they just sell parts nobody really restores and services these cars who works the phones which is a shame years ago it was totally different buying parts from people who knew these cars
