All, Just throwing this out there, but does anyone know of a Renato Armaroli? And whether hs he still alive? I ask, because I recently purchased a 1990's race car that has a motor supposedly built by him, and I'd like to connect to learn more about it. I'm also potentially interested in having an identical spare motor built up. I have found his Facebook page and reached out to him there, but no answer. I've also had a friend reach out to a connection on his page (perhaps his son?), but, again, no reply as yet. I have an address for a business in Reno, IT along with a phone humber and have tried calling, but the number is out of service. I suspect Signore Armaroli, who would be roughly 93, if alive, may no longer be with us, which would be disappointing for me. Even though I have a Ducati, I had never heard of him. Apparently, he was a very talented engine builder for Ducati. And, is reported to have also built F1 motors. I was told that he built Emerson Fittipaldi's motors during his F1 years, even. So, unfortunate to lose that knowledge, but also, perhaps, he may have had employees that are carrying on the business? All help is greatly appreciated. TIA, CW
Just for fun... https://www.cuoredesmo.com/ducati-mechanics-riders-who-have-made-their-mark/ And, if you happen to read Italian... https://www.italiaonroad.it/2019/01/29/i-grandi-motoristi-italiani-renato-armaroli/ Enjoy! CW
Met him many many years ago. A true genius. He was not working anymore, but the stories, wished I had half a brain to remember half the stories. He was still around in 2019. He would be only 92 now.... CW, thank you for the great links! Specially the one in Italian!
Thank you, Alberto. He had quite a career. As these "old timers" pass away, so many of those great stories are lost. I always enjoyed attending Targa66 dinners. The old racers (Redman, Atwood, Bell, Hobbs etc.) had wonderfully colorful tales, and I'm sure those who worked alongside them have just as many, if not more. I've forgotten more than I remember, but I think today's racers are so "corporate" that they probably don't have many to share. If they even would; don't want to hurt the image, right? I do hope he's still with us, and, maybe, I'll hear from him or the contact we reached out to on his FB page. Fingers crossed! CW
