Probably too early to tell. The torque curve is far more important than HP rating in real driving conditions.

Hard pass. Would need a hot engine that made great sound to draw me back and buy another.

If you have any brains the correct pathway to a fast Emira is to just get a used one and put a smaller supercharger pulley and injectors and tune the ECU. I don't know what the exhaust manifolds look like.
The car is a tough sell with the Cayman and Corvette available.
I have an Exige S and while the Emira is a gorgeous car, it is also a big car.

If I had to pick my favorite car, this is it. It has a total of 220 hp but handles so very well. It has no A/C or any other options other than limited slip and a roll bar. Thus far it has been completely reliable. The Emira has a similar chassis architecture and I hope that the new V8 car will offer the option of no options!

Spinning the supercharger faster makes more heat. Fine for a few pulls but on track after a lap or two you end up with less power than the stick setup as the system trues to save itself by pulling timing and going super rich. the emira is not abig car but its yuge by lotus standards, its also way too heavy for a lotus. With medium power levels and that weight, whats is usp, looks and manual, thats not enough.

100% agreed, lets hope the v8 car has the option of no options. Apprently its partly a repsoinse to delaers saying lotus should make a Gt3 competitor. Amongst changes needed to get there is a diet, ie less frippery, the aforementioned v8, proper no BS brakes, ie ap calipers and iron rotors, Ohlin's shocks and proper calibration and of course to loose enough weight to get below 3000lbs, oh yeah an maybe some great steering.

in a world where prche is scrapping the Gt4rs, well that new lotus can slot right into the 150K price bracket real driver track day fanatic , hopefully not more $ as it will damp squib like the maser mc20.

The danger of course is that as the amg motor weights about 100lbs more they foolishly make it more lux heavier still and call it a day because with 550-600hp acceleration and for 1 fast lap the numbers look good. To me yeak theyll sella few, but as with the maser it will be failure. You can expand your market for sure wit some lux versions, but you also have to know where you fit(ie lotus is not prche or ferrai or Mclaren) and who your core clientele are. There is a 5-10k unit spot opening up as porche goes all electric on the Cayman.

the fear is a v8 emira becomes like a z06 or mc20, heavy and bloated not good for much oter than posing. Whats neded is a Gt4rs GT3 competitor, a car that works great on street and crucially on track. Turns out if you add it all up there is a 30K market for cars that can actually work on track.

if the honda CTR is a 50k car, the mustang M2 are 75k cars(and not really great on track)and the GT6 a 200k car, Gt3 a 250-330k car then lotus can really shine in the 150k range. And realisticaly if an emira is now 100k, add the cost of the amg V8, lightweight seats, soem ligth body panels ohlins, brakes and you're at 150k.

AMG v8 goots cost 30k deduct 10K for the toyta lump and were at 20k. Seats and some cf body bits thats 20-30k based on porche BMW upcharge prices, brakes 5k. shocks 5k. Yeah 150-160k.

i'm a buyer for a v8 emira, currently have two lotus and wouldn't buy the current emira(too heavy, too numb, too slow and too much aftermarket bits needed to actually work on track), would buy a GT4rs if you could actually order one without 50k of crap and dealer adm, and find the z06 too big and too heavy. The emira imo looks great and has a stiff tub with wishbone suspension, now they just need to put the good bits in there. Yeah the option of no options. Odds of them doing that, remote, but then they did make the Elsie some maybe the spark of lotus still lives

Best way to upgrade emira is to get the turbo and tune it to 500 HP. No stick shift though.

Bottom line was said previously. Emira is tough sell compared to Cayman and c8. But that's same as it ever was
