    Matthias,
    Guten Morgen!
The picture was too dark for me to see the intake holes, but I presume they are rectangular. Are the bumpers European style?

Single as far as I remember. I’m not near the car this morning but I can just make out the single mount in this picture.

That was done many years ago, and I’m not sure I would do the same thing today if I had to do it again. I’ll chalk it up to young and foolish!

    Thomas, very interesting....
I would think your #04040 was a transition/prototype car for the late E-series body change
new parallel wipers and new lower front with round air intake holes, but still with single bumper mounts
European front bumpers in this case factory original too, as the early US-bumper wouldn`t fit to this front....
    very special, one off car!

Not sure why that picture posted four times!
Thank you for your insight. I often wondered about the front bumper but was happy to have the Euro style as I prefer it.
Even after twenty five years of ownership there's still things to learn about these cars.

Messina is a harbor city in northeast Sicily, separated from mainland Italy by the Strait of Messina. It’s known for the Norman Messina Cathedral, with its Gothic portal, 15th-century windows and an astronomical clock on the bell tower. Nearby are marble fountains decorated with mythological figures, like the Fontana di Orione, with its carved inscriptions, and the Neptune Fountain, topped by a statue of the sea god.
