    .

Thank you for posting this sequence. It worked for getting my 2015 Speciale sensors to wake up. I couldnt get them to wake up previously after driving it almost 300 miles in various scenarios.

Took car to smog and it hadn’t cleared monitors. Has only 460 miles so smog guy says drive it 100-200 miles.
Looked up the Drive Cycle on this thread and The Drive cycle worked!!
    Thanks Fchat!

Best solution to passing emissions is to register your car in Montana.

Old thread, sorry to resurrect from the dead! I'm due for inspection this month on my '15 458 Spider. Two years ago, it failed. I think I put 200 miles on the car trying to get everything to reset. Ultimately, drove around a few months with a failed sticker until it went in for service, and the tech did the dance, probably similar to what is described here.

I want to try it myself this time, but don't want to go to the DMV or an inspection shop until I know the ready codes are all set. What OBD scanner and status codes should I be looking for if we need 9 out of 10 of them? What are the 10? Will it be obvious in the OBD scanner I get, which ones I need to be "ready"?

I am leaning towards taking the emission test at a local automotive shop. It's $35, but it prevents the kids at DMV from driving my car up the inspection lanes unattended. In NJ, they won't let you stay in or with the vehicle. I'm also worried that they'll use the sticker removal blade and, if they're not careful, nick or cut the dashboard leather (yes, I'm OCD).

You need to look for the I/M monitors all showing “ready.” Most any OBD II scanner will be able to read and report on these. As for how many and which one(s) can show not ready and still pass, that probably varies by state.

got it. Thanks. I have an OBD and will check the I/M. In NJ you need all but one I believe.

    FWIW:
My AMG battery died, and I went through the same exercise to take SMOG test. I must have driven ~150 miles through various scenarios, and it didn't reset. I used a Blue Driver that communicated with my iPhone and drove less than 10 miles following the 'drive cycle' and it was good. I didn't even go through the whole dance. I checked it at the first idle step and the Blue Driver showed good. I think there are these critical data gathering steps like the long idle, followed by the long constant speed driving runs which allow the OBDII get information it needs.

"Be sure to use your hazards during this step, so though around you do not think you are trying to race them...LOL"

Good tip! I did this too. Driving down long stretches of freeway in the right lane at oddly slow and very constant speeds.

This is the drive reset cycle for 360s but I found it works for almost any car. The key is to start with a cold engine that has sat overnight.

My Ferrari tech gave me these instructions below to follow for my '15 458 spider. I have not had a break in the weather to try it yet, but maybe this weekend. This is what he performed on my vehicle 2 years ago to get my car to pass.

Cross fingers (I added this one)

    1/2 to full tank

25 miles in auto under 50mph

    Stop car

    Let idle 5 min

    3000rpm 2 minutes twice

    Let idle

    Check OBD of status Completed

In my experience with my 2014 458 Spider (and other cars that need to pass emissions), do not have more than 3/4 of a tank of gas or none of the monitors will reset.

As a precaution I was going to try to keep it range bound to 1/2 to 3/4 for the entire process.

Question once it does reset and is marked completed, do I have to immediately go to DMV right then and there, or if I go within a wee,k will it hold the cleared Fuel System and other completed emissions tests? Or is the reset short lived?

Once all the monitors show ready, they should stay that way unless you have an engine misfire, check engine light, or you disconnect the battery.

Once you get all the monitors to run you should be fine. Best of luck.

Well no joy. Just finished the procedure my tech gave me and the Fuel System still shows not ready-not completed status.

I did the following as he instructed:

Little over half a tank of fuel

25 miles in auto under 50mph (actually did 26 miles)

    Stop car

    Let idle 5 min

3000rpm 2 minutes twice (while holding 3000 rpm the car on its own dropped to idle after 60 seconds. I attempted the 2 minute 3000 rpm cycle twice and both times it dropped to idle on its own after a minute so I could not complete the full two minutes).

    Let car idle

Check OBD. Shows Fuel system still not completed. No DTC or fault codes when I checked. Car is 100% stock

Wondering if I should try this procedure instead from the post earlier here?

    1. Make sure your car has at least a 1/2 tank of fuel. Any lower and some systems may not set. It does not need to be completely full... 1/2 tank to 3/4 tank is ideal.

    2. Start with a completely cold engine ( as in first start up of the day ) or at least several hours cooled ( 3h + )

    3. Start the car and let idle without touching the gas pedal for 4 minutes

    4. Drive car in higher gear at a constant speed keeping the RPM's under 2500. Keeping the car at a constant speed is very important. I usually drive to the highway ( keeping the RPMs under 2500 ) and put it in the top gear and cruise... not changing gears or speed for approx. 4 miles

    5. Immediately after step #4 , find a long stretch of roadway , with no traffic, and perform a total of 6 ( in a row ) , 2,000 to 6,000 RPM runs , keeping the transmission in 1st gear ( Do NOT upshift ) when you get to 6,000 RPM, allow the engine to run itself back down to 2,000 RPM without using your brakes.... you are heating up the Cats in this step. Be sure to use your hazards during this step, so those around you do not think you are trying to race them...LOL

    6. Drive normally to somewhere close you can let the car idle for 5 minutes

    7. Turn the car off and let it sit for a minimum of 15 minutes.

    8. Start the car and drive normally for 20 minutes, again without sudden acceleration or frequent gear changes, for a total of 20 minutes. I usually drive on city streets for 10 minutes and then 10 minutes on the highway.

I'm going to go for collector car here in NJ but my registration isn't coming around again until next May and I already renewed it for this year a month ago not thinking emissions would be an issue once again. The first time this happened Wide World Ferrari had the car over two weeks and put on 100's of miles trying to get it to reset. They had to work with Ferarri I was told to update software or something to get it to work properly. Eventually they got it through. The next time two years after that the tech was able to get it through after following the drive cycle he gave me above.

I wonder if I drove the car 1000 miles in a week if it would even reset at this point!

Sorry to hear this didn’t work. But did you try the Ferrari method? Which monitors failed to show ready?

The only one not ready is the fuel system. I was told in NJ that one is mandatory. All others re ready and completed. I didn’t try the other method yet. Car needs to cool off I read a few hours or overnight before starting any of these procedures. Won’t have a good weather window for a bit where I can try again

Yes, you have to start with a cold engine. I’ve used an approximation of the Ferrari 360 method and it works on every car I’ve tried it on. Good luck and I hope to read about how you succeeded!
