removal and disassembly is a chore but if you're careful pretty obvious. The snag comes to the recoating. After years (and I do mean years) of research I finally found the soft touch clear coating system that returns the surfaces to the factory feel...but actually lasts. I still have one unopened kit available for whomever is interested. Thought I'd offer here before listing on ebay. thanks, Gary

I have used MR hobby premium top coat in flat with great success, did my entire 458 after removing the sticky degraded coating, 1 year later and still going strong. I think I did post some pics at some stage. I did everything from the binnacle cover to the air vents rest view mirror. it took me about a month working over weekends.

Although the disassembly and reassembly are a pain, a durable flat recoat is not the problem. There are plenty of clear coats for that. The issue is restoring the original soft touch to the surfaces. After over a year of research and testing I have a reliable product for this task. It's not cheap, but compared to $14K it's a steal.

Should anyone out there be interested, I still have a full sealed kit of soft touch clear coat available. I bought two, not realizing just how far it goes. Then again, I did the inside and outside of my California binacle, steering column, as well as all the buttons. Over a year down the road now, and still better than when it left the factory. Coating chemistry has progressed since 2012....thank goodness.
