Never a dull moment trying to drive a classic exotic across country.

After looking over this thread, I have to wonder. Does the Mondial have more issues than other Enzo era Ferraris? It seems there has been multiple attempts to drive across the country but no one has made it without breaking down. How does it compare to the 308/328?

My Testarossa has been nothing but reliable in the nearly 4 years I’ve owned it. With the miles I have put on it, I could have driven it across the country several times and it would’ve made it no problem. Maybe I should worry more about my newly acquired Mondial QV?

    Enzo era?
I have a friend that has driven his Enzo coast to coast several times, like eight or so.
He also daily’s an FF that now has over 100K miles on it. He jokingly asked the dealership to fit a plow to it. ;)

I mean cars produced during his lifetime. Such as Ferraris from the 70s, 80s etc.

Yes arrived a couple of days ago. Used New World Transport to get the car home from Utah to CT in an enclosed exotic car transporter. Cost was $2300, and the whole process took 9 days from the first call to delivery. Recommended.

This is my second ‘86 3.2 Coupe. My first one I bought in 2018 and drove it home from California to CT. 3000 miles in 8 days. The story is on this forum. No issues except a front tire. I think these cars are reliable if maintained and driven.

Think I figured out the issue that was causing the hesitation, and resulted in the abandoned trip home.

My theory: There is a thermoswitch on the oil radiator that activates the oil radiator fan. I found yesterday that the switches ground wire is missing - I had previously noted the car always has high oil temps when the hesitation problem occurred. So the oil fan was not running, and the oil was getting about 250deg out in the desert. The Marelli ignition ECU is located close to the oil radiator, right? So I am betting that old Marelli was getting very hot and the ignition signals were breaking down. It’s cold here in CT today, and the 100 or so miles I have done in the past 2 days have been trouble free, with oil temps below ~200, but it will be hot enough soon, so I can test the car with a working oil radiator fan.

I did get it home. The last 20 miles on the back of a flat bed tow truck.
