"Pull" is not working. The piece is jammed in there pretty good.

I'm not sure how to get at the other side of the cam, but let me see what that intails. Any thoughts to how to pull it out from the one side where it is stuck?

THANK YOU ALL for this wealth of information. Here is what I came up with for drillling the superceeded piece with reference to the OEM. Looks like 30 degrees offset.

    Very simple
Remove camshaft from engine, remove bolt holding cam belt cog/gear.
Metal dowel and hammer, tap out the stuck in bits. The camshaft is hollow.

With removed camshaft is very easy to use V blocks to support hold and clamp the cam in order to do any measurement and drilling.

He is determined not to remove the cam or the job would already be done.

Thank you to all who contributed to assisting with this issue. We found a fix and so far, looking good. Using the original (broken rubber) piece which came apart, we carefully cleaned out the inside of the shaft connecting to the cam and we glued in the broken piece with Permatex. After letting it set for 2 days, we turned over the engine and not a drip of oil appeared. Fingers crossed, hipe it holds.

Hard to drive while crossing fingers.

Really hard to understand why you just didn't do it correctly.

The high pressure oil feed in the hollow cam coupled with the odd fix of a rotating part that's not exactly a balanced thing.. all on a part that's going to heat cycle and run at 200*+ ... Things like that don't end well.

WOW, what a read. Sounds like this gentleman lives for the struggle. Probably should use red thread locker also. That way when when this part fails, the process is as fun as the first!

The high degree of torsional vibration in a cam is what destroyed the rubber. I doubt gasket cement will survive it.
