Not mine, no affiliation. But check out the pictures: 1982 Ferrari 308 | eBay Can the asking price be even anywhere close to current market value for this "beauty"? DM
i know i seen this car some were else a few years ago i think gullwing in ny not sure, if i remember it was going for around 25k, but to ask 40k is not really telling what the market is, either way if anyone wants to make a track only this might be the car at this price to do a full rebuild or even just a paint and mechanical redo for a driver you will probably all in around 80 -90k you can buy one that is ready to go at that price
Looks like it was sitting in a field with the top open for a very long time. That's really sad to see.
Well, the trunk carpet looks very nice… Why does it have 1/3 of a boxer paint job? I’d love to know the backstory on that. If they can get $46k for this, then I will feel very, very good about my 82 gtsi.
I'd guess but restor-purchase = very little its got to be worth $30-40k in parts? but being complete means some will see it as a viable project of some kind and that adds 20%?
I don't know man as bad as that looks... I would suspect every electrical piece on it is suspect. Might be able to salvage the engine, but since it looks like it has probably sat in a field somewhere for a long time I would guess that engine is toast as well.
It is a thing. But why does this one only have 1/3 of it? Like somebody decided to convert 1/3 to boxer, or elected to paint 2/3 of it body color. I was just curious what runs through someone’s mind when they do something like that.
Fair. My 84 just had the molding and I guess that is all this car probably originally..... a cheap way to repair it maybe? In my mind it kind of doesn't matter since all the paint is shot. For sure not a restoration candidate and probably over priced but hopefully someone buys it ( well below asking) for something other than parts.
True, but the cars they show are really in poor shape and somehow people still buy them. This one is especially bad but I've seen other classics of various makes almost as bad. Maybe they sell on consignment and give it back to the owner it doesn't sell? I guarantee you looking at the pics (the top of the radiator for example) this car is full of rust they ain't showing. No way you can have an interior like that and not have rust.
That's the problem...sad cars are usually worth quite a bit more cut-up and sold for parts then they are as cars, You don't sell a non-running engine for $2k, you sell good heads, crank, block, timing covers, intake, headers for closer to $10k. Sad cars get torn apart which is sad but as you say, this "car" isn't worth anywhere near to $46k
This car lost its life 20 years ago. You're looking at a cadaver. So I wouldn't cry too much. Some of it may still live on somewhere.
It lost its restoration path long ago..... but for someone handy who always wanted a 308, I see a complete car that that sat in the sun and needs $1500 for paint products and maybe $3k to get the interior decent (not stock or show but clean and functional) and a year or to to get the work done. Everything shaded looks mostly fine, not show fine but functionally fine. The wild card is the engine but if the plan is to add hp anyway, then no real risk there either. Personally I WAY prefer to start a project with a car like this where all the stuff I want to chuck is already trash then to pay up for a nicer car and have to try to sell the leftovers. Rolling through their website it kind looks like they price everything about 20% high hoping to settle 10% high I assume. At $20K this car would be a steal and gone in a day. At $30k its a pretty good clean and flip, cars with 10ft paint and drive are $60k now? At $40k I don't see profit but its an "I always wanted a 308 and there is very little project car inventory out there so what the heck". I'm sure they will sell this car.
not much of a future for this car, parting it out so other cars can go on is one way another if a U-Tuber tries to rebuild it or turn it into a retro mod, personal i would turn it into a track car or a F40 tribute with a 458-drive train, either way that takes time & money, will i have time the money that is where i have the problem lol
Well I can only give you one real world example. They bought my 308 when I sold it. I offered them all the paperwork I had on it which was most of it's history. They couldn't be bothered with it. My car had over 100k miles on it but on a '78 it only had a 6 place odometer. I was VERY clear that the odometer had turned over and told them numerous times it was 100K plus miles. They listed it as "odometer shows 7,000 miles" (or whatever it was that was showing). NOT one word about it being rolled over 100k even though they knew very damn well it was. Shady at best, bordering right on the edge of fraudulent. Mine was not quite running right but no mention of that either. Of course it was nowhere near as bad as this one so they were able to sell it to someone in the UK for about a $10k profit in a matter of a few weeks.
i never had any dealing with them but have looked at some of the cars they are showing, and just like any other dealer it's about volume, as far as your records you are right it means nothing to them that car can be a buick, the profit is made when they bought the car from you, they know what they want to get for that car on the price they paid for it, to us or maybe just me i have a passion for my car and when i bought it i knew it needed work and paint i feel i paid the right price for what i got and willing to more money into it not for resale but for my enjoyment, if i ever plan on moving on from the car i will ask the price i feel is fair fyi this is my first 308 and i feel i got lucky because i bought from the original owner who drove it and had the same passion for cars as i do he is now 82 and knew it was time to sale it, the best part is after we did the deal and the paperwork came to me i seen that i paid him the same price he paid for the car back in 1981 it is not in show room shape but is still a great looking girl and a real driver what i wanted, it just blow my mind and probably a sign long story short the car found me as i was dealing with some health issues with my son and it all came together.
