Got some cat delete pipes to fit. Whats the easiest way to get the cat pipes out. They look too big to get out through the engine bay. It has a Tubi and it looks like removing the muffler and getting the cats out the rear may be the best? Also whats the chances of re-using the 2 Tubi gaskets?
You need to remove the rear silencer and to do that you need to remove the rear bumper (I have changed exhausts with the bumper in place but it really doesn't save you any time, quite the opposite in fact). Once the rear silencer is out the cats are easily removed. I prefer to disconnect the lambda and temp probe sensors at the cable end and remove the cats with the sensors fitted. This means you have a lot more room to work with when removing the sensors. When fitting the de-cat pipes do up the join to the headers loosely. Then fit the rear silencer and make sure you are happy with the alignment. Rotate the de-cat pipes until they feel in their least stressed position. Do up the clamps on silencer/de-cat pipes first then finally tighten up the bolts on the join to the headers. As to re-using the tubi gaskets - I assume you are referring to the gaskets that join the tips to the main silencer? If you do find they are not re-usable I have some brand new ones on the shelf that didn't cost much (OEM gaksets are about £30 for a pair!). PM me if you want a pair. EDIT: Also make sure you use fresh self locking nuts on the bolts that hold the exhaust together. The vibrations from the engine can cause plain nuts to shake free. Nylocs are not suitable - you need all metal self locking nuts.
No problem - please feel free to PM me if you get stuck. Also, consider buying lambda extensions for your de-cat pipes. They will reduce your chance of getting a CEL.
We removed my cats without removing anything? Just drop them through the bottom with the car jacked up and bottom panel removed.
I'd be interested to hear how you did this. The front end of the cats slide over the header pipes and the rear end slide into the silencer pipes - they need to be slid off each end and with the headers and silencer in place I would have thought it wasn't possible.
hi,i m from portugal and i m waiting 2 decat pipes from quicksilver,i think when i instaler the pipes i need to change de values in the ecu,bc i dont wont the motor light on.is it like this or i dont need change the ecu values?
As far as I know they are fit and go. Mine have all the fittings for the factory sensors which will all be re-connected. But I guess you could also re-tune?
360 or F430? 360 you might be OK with just the pipes or might need o2 sensor extenders. On the F430 I *think* one of the ECU's needs reflashing but I'm not 100% certain.
Also: Don't forget to reset the ECU after fitting the pipes by isolating the battery overnight and following the correct startup procedure afterwards (search on here for the procedure).
Resurrecting this does one need to remove the cat back exhaust and rear bumper to drop the cats or is there enough play to slide the cats off or on if installing.
