    OK, but none of the three sets I’m considering are mint and restored as you say. Even the best one will need to be sanded and repainted at least. the other two definitely need reconditioning and restoration to some extent even before painting. I suppose I was more looking for information such as actual transaction prices in the last few months and years. Somebody posted a bring a trailer link which shows a set in what looks to be mint condition sold for $8500 earlier this year. That’s more along the lines of what type of information I was looking for if available. In your case, clearly you value them a lot and aren’t interested in selling. That’s not the kind of seller I’m inclined to hit up. That said, I do appreciate your knowledge on the topic And contributions.

    Even the $8500 ones on BaT were just ok. Painted over lug seats. I’d look for a set to restore. My point was anyone selling “finished, ready-to-go” sets at $5-6k… I’d question how well they were really finished. I’d look for a decent condition set in the $4-5k range and restore them properly. You’ll probably be in it $7k all said and done, but at least you’ll know they’ll be at a certain standard.

    It's still going strong.

    A few years ago at Lime Rock Park I saw a wheel fail on a Fiat 500 Abarth due to a manufacturing defect. Robb tells the story here: Take Your Best Shot-Best Photo of Your 355

    On examination later that day, it was noted that two other Fiat 500 Abarths had cracking at the hub.

    I also own a Fiat 500 Abarth :).

    Would love to see pics of the wheels to see which ones they were. The original wheels for the Abarth, which were a spokey design, were forged wheels. Often referred to as “Superalloy.” At some point later, they were discontinued and now made cast alloy. Think $1500 per set. I wouldn’t be surprised those were the ones that blew up. They look identical to the forged originals, but just non-forged aluminum.


    I still have the forged superalloy originals on my car and apparently people are looking diligently for them and paying upwards of $3-4k for a set. Now I know why :).

    I also have a brand new set of OE Abarth wheels called “Ferrari Tributos.” They are cast alloy.

    Those are after-market wheels. Most likely a budget cast alloy wheel.

    New, they are a single stage paint. There is some orange peel, but you can cut and buff it out. With powdercoating, not so much.

    Those repainting probably should make a decision between single stage paint or 2 stage paint.

    Different topic but wondering if anybody knows if there is a weight difference in the optional OEM drilled rotors versus the stock ones and if so, what are those amounts?

    I probably have to wait until the car gets delivered and I swap the stock ones for the drilled which I’ve already purchased.

    I have used standard rotors as well, but they’re used… not sure if it’s a fair comparison.


    Drilled Rotors:

    Fronts - 17.4 lbs
    Rears - 16.4 lbs

    Why fronts are heavier than rears? No clue.

    They’re in storage. 30k mi. Unless someone wants to buy em :). I can’t see the difference being much other than the weight difference of drilling holes.
