Afternoon, The fans don't come on. I let it run and went to make a coffee and when i returned it was hissing and leaking coolant..... Lesson learnt - get somebody else to make the coffee whilst you watch the car.... Fitted to a RHD car but there was no issue with length of cable and position of connectors. The fuses in the harness are good The fuses in the fuse box are good It is connected to the battery, and i shows 12.6v at the fuse and at the relay. I have not tested the relays. The only bit that is different to the video is; The LH fan connector doesn't have an earth connection. Ferrari 456/550 cooling fan harness install part 1 You can see that both have the earth connections at about 25 - 30 seconds. Would one fan not being earthed cause neither to come on as opposed to just that one ? Thanks Image Unavailable, Please Login
I had to try several bolts before I found one that was actually connected to the (-) battery connection to give me a good ground.
While still waiting to hear back from Poffo and as the producer of the harness, let me address and get ahead of the issue. Based on the picture above yes, you are missing a ground wire for that side fan harness. That would cause the fan to not turn on, as you haven't completed the circuit. If that's how you received your package then I cannot apologize enough for shipping an incomplete harness. We had talked prior to this, and I will make it right regarding the harness. Since I started offering this kit, I have strove for consistent and perfect production when it leaves me. I dont want this to reflect at all bad on @Ricambi America as they have trusted me as well and put their name behind it. I will do better in quality assurance. I have fielded a few emails about grounding issues. I have not been able to come up with a conclusive answer, other than all have been on 550s. I dont know if its an undercoating or how the installer places the ring, but it has happened to at least 2 people I have talked to. Once a proper ground is connection is made, the harness works as designed. Again, it has truly been an honor and great experience making and offering these to the community. I want anyone who has already installed one or considering to purchase one to feel confident I have your car's best interest in mind to every harness I make. I look forward to hearing from Poffo and getting this taken care of.
I would second what Nick and others have said: I had to try several different ground locations (on a 550) before I found one that worked effectively. Nick was extremely helpful with helping me figure out what was going on and in getting the issue resolved. Fans work great now.
I had one bolt that I would have bet the car that it would have been a good ground... but no. I ended up taking an ohm meter and putting one end on the (-) terminal of the battery and then probing all the bolts until I found one that showed 0 ohms. I was surprised at the number of bolts that showed an open circuit to the (-) terminal on the battery. My car is MUCH happier with Nick's radiator wiring harness installed... thank you.
The customer service spect of releasing such a (great) part must be exhausting when you see a thread titled as such.
Doesn't give me any warm and fuzzy feelings that's for sure... but as the oversight was (seemingly) on my end, I just want to make it right. Hopefully anyone who finds this thread in the future will read more than the title in their research. Ill stand behind it 100% and am reachable. Better believe the next batch of harnesses will be the most scrutinized from me. Stuff happens.... make lemonade, sun still comes up tomorrow.
I still run Nick's prototype 550 harness. It has proven absolutely troublefree. Since then I haven't seen coolant temp exceed 90°C/190°F by much in the worst possible conditions - idling in traffic in very hot weather with the A/C running on full load.
To further update this thread, a replacent part was shipped out this morning. Hopefully with much delay thru customs, Poffo will be fully installed soon. Thank you everyone else for their sharing their positive feedback.
Nick’s harness worked perfectly first time on my UK 456GT. I think that the idea of checking the Ohms for possible ground locations is a sensible suggestion.
