    Hi All,

I recently picked up a 1986 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 Cabriolet (US model, red over black) as part of what I’m calling my “Project Blackbird” — a full deep-dive into bringing this car back to its full potential, both mechanically and cosmetically... although it's in great shape (I think... so far) as is right now. I have the original Tonneau cover as well.

This is my first Ferrari btw. I got it because I wanted a reliable car to go golfing in that fits 2 sets of clubs and a friend to bring along. And for other personal use driving around, etc. Always had posters of Ferraris on the wall as a kid.

The VIN ends in 066133, and I’m hoping someone here might recognize it, have some history, or just want to follow along as I go through the restoration process.

History - So far, I know the car:
    • Rolled off the line in July 1986
    • First registered in Roslyn, NY on 2/15/1987 (right outside NYC on long Island)
    • All records up to 11/16/2012 have it in Roslyn, NY
    • And then next record it was sold at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in Oct 2024
    • Pics of the auction have the original toolkit in it but I can't track it down... would like help or tips there on what might've happened?
    • Then again at Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach in April 2025
    • Eventually ended up at a dealer in Illinois, where I purchased it (they specialize in muscle cars and this was the only european in the place even though they claim "we sell EVERYTHING"... ya right... mechanics in the back said they do 99% muscle cars. Whatever all good...
    • Odometer reads just under 23,100 miles
    • I think I'm technically the second owner then?
I’m attaching some cropped Carfax screenshots that outline the ownership and sale timeline. If any of this rings a bell — or if you recognize anything about the car — I’d love to hear from you. Even if not, I’m open to tips or suggestions as I go through the sorting process.

Here's what I've done to it so far... and I'm keeping a super detailed log in a spreadsheet. Would like to eventually make a full original set of the car (manual, toolkit, etc.).

    • Added new coolant 50/50 green... it came BONE DRY from dealer... center console light was on when I got it. Not sure what they were thinking...
    • Replaced all the fuses (kept originals)
    • Poured in Techron Concentrate Plus for the fuel injectors since it sat for so long
    • Added and will keep adding Lucas Oil Upper Cylinder Lubricant

What else I'd like to do:

    • Ground the battery to the chassis to avoid electrical issues
    • Over time, get original owner's manual, find that damn toolkit it had months ago, and any other original extras.

Thanks in advance — this forum has already been a goldmine of knowledge, and I’m excited to finally contribute something of my own.

    – Freddie

(P.S. If there’s a better sub-forum for tracking down past owners or records, let me know and I’ll repost there.)

Thank you! I prefer it to the tan, which is also cool anyway.

Regarding your tool kit: Tool kits, spare tires and other accessories are common items that are stolen at auctions. Not sure who steals them, but I've heard more than once that they seem to disappear after the auction. It's also a good idea to not keep them in the car other than the spare!
    Beautiful car by the way!

Thanks for the complement! That's what I figured... what a shame! Will do that as I slowly collect the other original pieces.

not to be cheeky sir, but i love your car! after i sold my 328gts, i've regretted my decision
    ever since selling her.

i've been searching for a 1986 mondial cab. in comparable condition to my late 328.
