Had some time to work on the spider this weekend. Started with the transmission and the first then to do is start with the filler bolt. Learned that the hard way in the past (nothing like angle grinding off a filler bolt under a car on jack stands)... Image Unavailable, Please Login Got to use my new fancy oil cans: Image Unavailable, Please Login Filter came out without any surprises Image Unavailable, Please Login Redline back in Image Unavailable, Please Login Next up was the oil and it's filter: Image Unavailable, Please Login I also siphoned out the Power Steering fluid and added Shell Spirax S4 (shipped from the UK). I still need to do the coolant and then the belts (including timing). Hoping to have that done next weekend.
Was wondering the same thing, but I'm guessing Recaro Pole Position (which look fantastic) using oem Porsche seat rails? Maybe OP can confirm.
Forgot to respond to the above but yeah, those were custom done carbon fiber Recaro Pole Position ABE. A shop in Germany did them including the embossed Porsche crest. Had to sell them for that reason but they looked amazing in my 997 GT3.
Had some time to work on the car this weekend. The placement of the oil filter is a bit of a head scratcher, especially on the spider. Ended up standing inside the engine bay to contort myself the right way to get it unscrewed and under the hoses... Image Unavailable, Please Login Old filter off, new one on... Image Unavailable, Please Login Also swapped out some rusty bolts Image Unavailable, Please Login Next up was tackling the passenger door handle and door pulls which both were pretty beat up. Soaked them in acetone in a bag and the soft touch just peeled off Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Was it the shop the one named like scuderia v? I've ordered from that shop before, good guys. Getting a 360 and a 997 GT3 together would be my dream garage...
It was Maar Haandel (https://maar-shop.com/). My problem with the 997 was that I couldn't get the sound right. Burned a bunch of money trying to get the raw, visceral, loud sound I had on my 996 GT3 (which had the goldilocks setup of straightpipes but ZERO drone) but without drone. I think there was too much insulation on it or something. My Modena with sport cats and Capristo has much better volume in the car than I could get out of the 997. Also, slightly hot take, but I think I find manuals less engaging than paddle shift cars these days.
Had some time to do some small things. First was replace the broken tool straps with the Two Birds replacement ones that I got for this car and the Modena. Image Unavailable, Please Login Took a few minutes to drill out the old rivets and install new ones: Image Unavailable, Please Login End result, tools secured again: Image Unavailable, Please Login Also decided to replace the completely destroyed exhaust gaskets with some new oem replacements for the Tubi: Image Unavailable, Please Login I have the timing belt kit in hand now along with the necessary tools. Hoping to tackle that over the weekend and then I can put this car up for sale.
I don’t have a 360 so I’m not certain, but are the straps not supposed to point down? They do in the F430.
Manuals vs Paddles is hot take for sure lol Cool that you've had both 997 and 996 GT3 and can offer real opinion, I've been looking at 996 GT3 for a little while now, maybe might focus on the 996 instead in the future instead of a 997. I'm looking for a raw old school sound.
This is how the 996 GT3 sounded inside (M&M long tube headers, catless x pipe and muffler bypass pipes aka straight pipes baby): Cold start with throttle blip to 4k and 7k (near the end): 996 GT3 ripping through the gears and downshifts: https://photos.app.goo.gl/LsozSHwDxgwHbu9D8 997 GT3 w/ Cargraphic 200 cell long tube headers and Sharkwerks center bypass and valves open on my local stretch of Mulholland: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZBcJ8y6qrChPzWTP8 360 Spider, top closed, Capristo valves opened (intake silencer still in place on this car) on same stretch of Mulholland: https://photos.app.goo.gl/e74CRMUjjvfRjLoy7 360 Modena, Capristo valves open, 200 cell sport cats and intake silencer removed on Mulholland (if you pay attention, there's a big difference in intake noise): https://photos.app.goo.gl/8L7Wkyi7Sm82sCGk6 My buddy's 991.2 GT3RS with sharkwerks center bypass going the reverse direction (camera angle got messed up, but man that car is dope): https://photos.app.goo.gl/uiMeuF4bxHBa5kqC9 For me, the 997 GT3 in the videos (and in person) was the least exciting audibly. The 996 GT3 downshifts sounded wicked. Both cars had 4.0 RS lightweight flywheels. The 991.2RS though is audibly a much more engaging car to be in than the 997. While I love my 360(s), I would consider replacing them with a 991 RS. It's a really really good car. I was expecting it be less engaging from a steering feel standpoint and driving dynamics but I think that's all BS. That stretch of Mulholland is lower speed and I had no issues having an engaging drive in it. My biggest concern with that car was that you'd have to go ludicrous speeds to have fun in it and I think PDK somewhat makes up for it since you can run through gears and listen to a symphony. With my manual cars, since I'd often find myself staying in just one gear, the auditory experience was a little monotone so I made up for it by pushing and unsettling the cars. With the Ferrari F1 box, I realized I didn't need to go that hard, I actually got a bigger kick out of the sound and being able to shift up to 3rd where I normally would stay in 2nd because I'd almost immediately need to shift back down and then get to hear the downshift rev match.
So I recently put an X-pipe exhaust with 200 cel cats on my 996 GT3 when the original mufflers started to crumble at the bottom from rust. What a difference in sound over stock. I'm sorry I didn't do this 20 years ago. I was on a kick about staying stock for the longest time on mine. I ordered the car the way I wanted and had to really convince myself it was time, and only slowly over the last 5 to 10 years have I started changing things. First, after I cracked two rims on a road buckle, it was cheaper to upgrade to OZ racing wheels all around, so I said why not and that was the beginning of the rat-hole of upgrades. When my carbon shifter cracked, as they all do, it was time to redo all the carbon and add more as well. I think my next project will be PCCM radio upgrade so I can have an integrated modern navigation system when I go on drives. I love my 430, but I will be buried in my 996.
