Anyone spec CFUL - Full Protective Film from the factory on their car? If so, do you have any more information it or photos? Thanks!
In addition, I have read it's best for the paint to continue to cure before being sealed so quickly with PPF at the factory.
I don't even think it's done at the factory. I was told that the pre-delivery inspection team in Newark install it after leaving the port. Maybe that's changed though.
It’s installed in Italy but the quality is very bad. I inspected a car that had it yesterday. It’s all pre-cut pieces and you can see the edges … you would get a much better result for half the money to get it done at a specialist after you take delivery of the car. Also somehow the doors are not part of the “Full protective film” package
Don't kid yourself about the benefits of precut PPF. Every PPF installer that I have gotten to know has told me that at one time or another they have cut into new car panels when doing custom film install. You won't know it until you really look at every angle or when corrosion requires a repaint. Also becomes evident when you replace your old PPF and you get lift at the cuts.
+1 on the factory PPF being frustratingly bad. I've seen the demo cars with it and within a few hundred miles they have dirt under the lifted edges/seams. I did Xpel pre-cut on my GTB and I was kind of meh about the seams and edges on that, honestly. Looked great from 5 feet, but visible around the edges at arm's length. I'm going to have my installer hand-cut Suntek with all folded or hidden edges for the GTS.
PPG paint has improved and is much more stone chip and chemical etch resistant. The Full film protective 'vibe' is sort of like a man in good shape buying a three piece suit. Tom Ford doesn't make em My F8 spider has 53,000 mules and the paint look just fine
Yeah and we are talking about a brand new car still sitting in the showroom ... a few days on the road and some of these will start pealing off and collect dirt underneath
My dealer told me that Ferrari is not doing PPF at the factory by themselves so you get a 3-year warranty for the car but only a 2-year warranty for the factory PPF in Germany. I decided to do Xpel full PPF by my known installer for my 12C. My installer said he can adjust the precut data of Xpel to get a better result at the edges and in my case it turned out perfect - you can’t see anything of the PPF at the edges. Xpel precut data suggest to do the wide bonnet in two pieces but this talented guy managed it in one piece. So it totally depends on the installer.
Paint is a composite thin film. Curing probably proceeds in several phases. After the first few phases then there is still late cure or post -curing. Therefore allowing the paint to see sunlight can achieve a higher percentage of curing and a stronger film. Not sure if applying a protective film before allowing this to occur interferes . Modern curing of thin films eschews volatiles and instead relies on initiators such as thermal and photo -initiators. Certain color pigments create other challenges to curing. Titanium dioxide for instance.
No idea. I remember that he said the precut data of Xpel was not perfect yet but every licensed installer is writing his experience with new models to the internal network so the precuts are getting better over the time.
Where you drive, is there a lot of sand on the roads? Do you encounter sand storms both small low lying and larger?
My dealer told me to pay special attention to the rear panels as the front tires sometimes kick stones towards the back of car. The area I highlighted in the pic below. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Saw some news about films which were lighter than paint and could be removed and replaced when a different color was desired. Very intriguing!
