The russians won't do anything that they haven't already. This puts a massvie dent in their fleet of tu-95s which cannot be replaced, and the ones that remain are under intense operational strain from high usage rates. The SBU saw Mossad's successful pager operation and said "hold my vodka and salo".
The total a/c damaged have been estimated at a value of $7B+.

Huh..I thought this was more B.S. from the media. Looks like it's true.

Pretty big security mistake on Russia's part, not protecting those planes. Just kinda parked out in the open, like sitting ducks. Especially since they cannot be replaced.

18 months in the planning, Russia just considered range of drones out of Ukraine, not drones shipped in boxes to Russia and then deployed.

Russia's doctrine has pretty much been to leave everything out in the open and account for the distance to target to protect them. That's how an SU-57 got hit a little while back

This war is ALL Putin. Most Russians want to live in peace and would rather drink a Coca-Cola at McDonald's ;)
The 'US' (wink) has given Putin the green light to do what he wants. I wouldn't put it past him to use a tactical nuke on Kyiv. What would we do about it? >>> NOTHING! ....... ok, maybe some new sanctions

Russia's nuclear doctrine allows for a nuclear response in the event of an attack on 'critical government or military infrastructure'.
In particular, 'an enemy attack that disrupts the operation of nuclear forces, threatening Russia's ability to respond' could lead to Putin ordering an atomic strike.

The destroyed bombers are nuclear missile delivery systems. Regardless, there's no doubt there will be severe retaliation.

Its a lot of talk and blister which the russians are very good at. When Ukraine disarmed from nuclear status there were almost 200 nuclear warheads that were missing, and Ukraine possesses enough plutonium and waste material for ~1000 Hiroshima bombs. They have the know-how to quickly rearm considering they made many of the Soviet nukes.

They can very easily replicate an Israeli status. (we don't have nukes but can find them if we need them).

I hate to tell you this. But we (CONUS types) are also vulnerable to this type of attack. This is the new face of warfare. Not just airfields either. Sporting events, other public gatherings.... 1000-drone light shows draw all of the smiles and cheers but people just don't understand how horribly exposed we are. Counter-UAS technology needs to be among our highest priorities. We simply can't afford not to stay in front of this threat.

    https://www.twz.com/news-features/russian-strategic-bombers-destroyed-in-unprecedented-wide-scale-drone-attack

Quote: "The attacks ...... should serve as a global wake-up call."

Quote: "The threat of wide-scale, low-end, localized drone attacks against prized aircraft sitting at airfields — including in the U.S. homeland — has been a brewing threat, as TWZ highlighted repeatedly for many years, which includes the exact scenario that occurred in Ukraine in the last 24 hours."

Come on, people. The threat is real.

I want everything to imagine if Cuba did this to the USA. You know, they wiped out 1/3 of the B52s, B1's, and a few Stealth Bombers -- all out of production.

What would the USA do? Sit around and say "ah shucks, you got me!"

These strategic nuclear bombers were out in the open because of the treaties with the USA. Both sides wanted satellite verification of their numbers and locations. What do you think the Russians will do with that treaty now?

They already backed out of the test treaty back in 2023: https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/putin-revokes-russias-ratification-nuclear-test-ban-treaty-2023-11-02/

Oh I’m not disagreeing with you.

I believe I read that the planes that were being used to attack Ukraine were targeted. If true, they are legitimate targets.

Oh, for sure legitimate military targets rather than terrorism, which the other side likes to do. But these planes had a purpose against more than Ukraine -- and that's the problem. Because we are supporting the country that created the attack.

My only point is I wouldn't celebrate until the final act plays out. This can still go very badly.

Drone swarms have already changed antitank warfare, and now smuggling has changed the idea of safe zones. Assymetrical warfare is about to change the idea of superpowers. Nobody will really use nukes, and naval drone swarms is about to end the day of carrier force projection. Strange days ahead.
