Has anyone here had experience with PCCBs? I’ve found a 997.2 S with 77K miles, no apparent track use based on appearance and service records. Totally stock car with decent options, colors, etc., but I’m concerned about the potential for disc replacement.

I have a 997.1 C2S 94k miles. PCCB's show almost no wear and last forever (assuming you don't track)

I loved the PCCBs on my 997.1 gt3. Minimal brake dust was fantastic.

There is a conversion to steels available. Something to look into if you are worried about cost of replacement on PCCB.

Thanks. I’ve done a lot of reading about PCCBs and the conventional wisdom seems to be that the “early” ones were subject to unusual wear, even though they were touted as lasting the lifetime of the car. The problem is I’ve never seen any identification of what years the “early” ones were.

I had 45k miles on mine when sold. I beat on them. Completely fine.

This, unfortunately is true. Ultimately disc wear is measured by weight - so that’s definitely something to have looked at in a PPI.

If you like the car, I would suggest either driving it with the current brakes until it comes time to change the rotors (if you don’t care about resale) OR putting the PCCB rotors in a box in the garage and replacing them (and the pads!!) with steel rotors and “normal” brake pads.

PCCBs should last a good long time (100K miles +) but they’re expensive little things, even if they’re resurfaced (Surface Transforms does this, but again it is spendy, albeit less so than Porsche replacements)

Word is keeping the pads thick - not letting them wear below ~1/3 thickness - helps life of the discs.

In the end. if you like the car, don’t let the PCCBs stand between you and buying it!

Ok, I’ve found the car, settled up, etc. but can’t take possession until the transporter picks it up on June 25. I made the ~1k mile round trip to inspect and test drive the car last weekend. It’s a three owner car, the second owner and the seller are friends. The second owner purchased it CPO and the car is fully serviced including new tires. 16,xxx miles! Here are the details:

    2010 Porsche 997.2 Carrera S
    6 speed transmission
    SportChrono+
    Sport exhaust
    Power heated comfort seats
Several comfort/ convenience option I’m not that interested in, but they’re there.
    Carrara white/black

All systems are working; no warning lights; no fluid leaks; no unusual noises, vibrations, odors, etc; no smoke on cold startup; one hour test drive through traffic and into the mountains went perfectly; all keys, books, manual, etc. present; some service records; CPO documentation; clean CarFax of course. One tiny windshield chip is the only blemish. Full service in 2024, oil service in 2025. Completely stock except for wheel spacers. If I were specing the car from new I would have gone with a lighter interior and black instrument dials and probably short shift kit. That can be retrofit….any opinions on that?

My only disappointment is that this series doesn’t have the solid, bank vault feel that I really appreciated in my F and G body Porsches…the ping on closing the door, etc.

The only pictures I have are around the seller’s home and property and he asked me not to publish those but I’ll be glad to post my own pictures after I take delivery, but honestly it’s a pretty plain vanilla car, visually.

As to price, I’ve been watching the market for these for months. .2 six speeds, especially Ss, have been difficult to find and it’s been reflected in the prices. I think I got a really good deal on a well cared for nicely equipped car

Thanks for all the help and experiences. I really appreciate it.

Awesome! Sounds like a great car. Even if it is white, post pics when she gets to you

I hope you have many many happy miles in it!

Thanks, Chris. The car was just loaded an hour ago. It’s about 9 hours away. The dispatcher called yesterday and said they had a spot open in the van, about 10 days earlier than expected. The seller said the load went well and the car’s in good company. This will be a direct drop, no en-route unloading/reloading.
