I am after a set of 430 headers cracked or not. I am wanting to re-tube a set and add a flexi bellows (as per 458) where the pre cat was. This will be a cost effective alternative to the expensive aftermarket headers. I can do mine but would rather swap them out so the car is not off the road as long. They need to be cheap as the freight to NZ will kill me.
    Regards, Glen

I installed headers on my F430 last weekend and reviewed the design. I agree with you, that the header and exhaust bracket failure is due to a non flex exhaust system. The engine with the header move as a unit, but the exhaust is tied to the chassis and move as another unit. Thus the difference of movement between the two causing the failure of the exhaust hanger and/or the header. Something got to give.

I do have an idea on how to make the joint from the header to the cat flexible. The connection uses donut which should allow some movement if the spring loaded fastener was designed correctly. Lots of Japanese car uses this method. However, Ferrari solution with the fastener is flawed IMO. If you look at it, the spring acted as a tension for the fastener itself, sort of belleville washer. A flex-pipe would definitely fix it, but I don't think there is enough room, unless you weld the flex pipe on the cat pipe side.

I think if I keep the primary pipes short and get rid of the pre-cat then there should be enough room for a flexi joint before the cat pipes. Yes, definitely the rigid design causes the failure. Ferrari have acknowledged this by adding a flexi joint on the next model 458. Interesting the 458 has no heat shields either. I think the metal shields may cause hot spots also. I believe insulating each pipe individually is a better way to go as it will insulate each pipe from each other.

Still need some headers so I can have a play.

No emissions warranty over here. Our sole F-dealer repairs them. They may have replaced some under normal warranty though. I will ask, thanks.

I have a pair of original headers from my 2007 F430. They both had cracks so I had them repaired as the cracks were at the welds, so the shield first comes off and then repaired then the shields get welded back. One is in perfect shape but on the other (R side) we tried to take away the pre cats inside which wasn't easy so that currently is broken unless its reopened. Happy to send you both for 300$ USD. I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area. Email me at [email protected] and I can send you pictures. Thanks

Thanks but that was 10 years ago. I fitted challenge headers without the pre-cats so I'm all good.
