all i know is that Haris has had mclaren's in the shop and working on them, and he told me they came to him from mclaren houston as they were off warranty and they sent that work to him to do - so presumably he can get parts.

i agree with some of what you are saying, however it is all in the past. the distant past now.
nearly everyone buying the latest and greatest cars were not even born or just kids when the namesake had anything to do with the cars being built.
now they are faceless nameless corporate entities - UNLESS you follow the engineers and designers that have made their imprint in the last few decades - think Frank Stephenson, Luc Dankervolke, metzger, etc

everyone was the new kid on the block at one time....
mclaren is the new kid on the block now, and they are beating the established brands at their own games on many levels.

and i repeat what i said earlier, mclaren will gain if they win the wdc and wcc, and they now appeal more to car guys, and guys that actually drive their cars farther than the next cars and coffee, than the two italians.

I don’t think McLaren has the product to pull it off.

Their car (because they all look the same), is great in 2 categories and sucks in every other one.
Driving a McLaren is like tryna make love to an ultra hot, self obsessed chick. I like a car that gives back, makes you work for it and opens up when you hit the right spots, rewards your gravitas... Ferrari and the its racing history, is still the basis for the brand. Everyone copies their innovations that make it from the track to the road cars.the good and the bad comes out in the product of Ferrari. It’s among the hottest, choicest cuts out there, but there is humility and pride and hard work that comes through. They try different things as a departure from their hits and take chances. Stretch boundaries in performance and design and that IS RACING culture. Enzo’s DNA is still embedded in Ferrari and their mission, even though the shareholders and the pressures that brings are increasing influence, Ferrari, for what it is I think is still pure in their mission. Racing and the pursuit of excellence is totally relevant in their products and whole being. Without it, it would be churning out functional cars with crappy aero and calling it sport like a civic or a Camry sport.

When I was growing up, I wanted a Ferrari because they were damned sexy cars. I knew the 308 and Testarossa from TV and movies, and the F40 from magazine covers. When I was in my early 30s, I bought my 328 because it was a damned sexy car that I wanted forever.

It was later, through the Ferrari club, that I started watching F1. Fortunately for me, that was just about the time Ferrari went on its domination trend. But note that the F1 history had absolutely no impact on that initial NEED for a Ferrari.

So no, Ferrari doesn't have to win F1. But they do need to get back to building some damned sexy cars.

I guess so. McLaren does not appeal to me ... other than the F1 ... I'll stick with Ferrari.

I was the opposite. My Dad was a racing fan from right after the war... Indy and F1 or Formula Libre as it was at the time ...and the big Race LeMans. I grew up knowing all about F1 and Racing and then Ferrari. I dont know why Ferrari, but at Watkins Glen a guy let me sit in his 330gtc.... when I was like 5 or so... I just liked the look and sound. As I got older I always followed Ferrari F1 Niki Lauda, Villeneuve, Sheckter, etc... and started to lust after the road cars... mainly the Dino 206 ... It was in the tv series the Persuaders... loved that car... then the 308... etc...

Not to turn this into a McLaren bashing thread, but around me, they are associated with, and very much the choice of, the Crypto/Let Me Sell You a Course/MLM Bro's. Hopefully their F1 success will improve their image, but that's a big hole to climb.

Ferrari, by their own admission is now a luxury brand. F1 doesn't matter anymore. Ferrari F1 has been a joke. This Hamilton deal is a disaster.
