Valutations are all over the place these days. What does the crowd think a clean 99 Coupe with 40k miles and new clutch, belt service and heat exchangers would be worth in the US. Red over tan interior. F1 gearbox. Above 85 or 90?

Need a heck of a lot more info than that that to make any kind of educated guess. As a '99 owner, I will say that even though the lack of pre-cats makes for somewhat of a desirable feature, there are plenty of other things that work against it. A lot of the 99's were out of warranty when the variator and other TSB's came out and a lot of things were updated afterward so a lot of people steer clear of the older models.

I just installed a new exhaust system but kept my OEM headers. I did have the pre-cats knocked out of them though. Not a big deal to do that and IMO not a big advantage to a first year iteration of the 360. A lot of improvements, changes, and upgrades were made in the later models. Being an F1, perhaps the biggest upgrades include the TCU for the trans.

I think if you can do the work yourself that might be a deal. But in my personal opinion that particular one, just based on mileage and clutch (plus whatever else you find 'while you're in there'), is at best a break even from a financial standpoint, even if you do the work yourself.

I figured 15-20k gets it to 70 to 75k. With all that new i was thinking it might go for 85 in a year or less. Seems like they have bottomed out and are going back up

I thought the TCU was mainly for performance and track and not for clutch longevity?

Right now, a 99 F1 car with 40 k miles is probably worth $65-70k. Anything above a $70k asking price is just gonna sit on the market. Nada retail currently is $58k.

Cleaner shifts, perfectly matched revs between each downshift probably result in less clutch wear with the later TCU (as well as leaving the shift setting in "Sport"). Most of the folks I talked to felt like the early F1 cars shifted, particularly the '99s, much less crisp. FWIW.
So yes I would say that would be a minor drawback to the early version of the 360 versus the later versions. I can' t remember what year the upgrade to the TCU happened. But I can tell you my '03 has the latest from the factory. I'm told the only one that was modified from that time was the TCU that was used in the Challenge cars.

You'd have to research it. I don't know. Sometimes there are F-Chat members that will list one for sale. Trev here does upgrades so you may want to look his way.

I'm not trying to sour you on your leanings toward this car, but, I've been building cars for many years and the golden rule is; You really don't want to buy the first year offering of a new model no matter the marque.

yep, thats why the 99 is worth less than a 2000+ car. The ONLY advantage is the absence of the pre cats in the manifolds. The TCU upgrade is expensive, but a worthwhile investment, especially for those of us who work on our own cars. I would not have been able to set my PIS or bleed the system on my F1 actuator after swapping out a leaking unit. Plus those shifts..... makes it a completely different car.
