KLINE VALVETRONIC EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR FERRARI 599 GTB

Upon its debut, the Ferrari 599 instantly established itself as the definitive grand tourer. Equipped with a remarkable 6.0L V12 engine, capable of generating 612hp in its naturally aspirated configuration, this car possesses unparalleled sonic potential.

THE SOUND

Kline’s primary focus for the Ferrari 599 was to develop an exceptionally lightweight, valvetronic full exhaust system using Inconel 625. Their goal was to achieve a subtle and pleasant sound during cruising speeds, while unleashing a full F1-like scream when the throttle is fully engaged and the valves are open.

To accomplish this, Kline replaced the stock catalyst with high-flow 100cpsi HJS sports catalysts, resulting in a significant enhancement of the sound profile. The addition of the valvetronic rear section allows for near-silent operation during cruising, while providing the freedom to unleash the unrestricted Ferrari scream by opening the valves when desired.

Furthermore, Kline designed full equal length headers for the 599, removing the catalysts from the headers to improve throttle response and greatly enhance the overall sound experience. The exhaust system is finished off with Inconel out-rolled tips, adding a touch of sophistication and style.

STAINLESS STEEL

In the domain of exhaust manufacturing, the industry conventionally relies on 304-grade stainless steel as the established standard. This particular grade offers a well-balanced combination of moderate strength, thermochemical stability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of production. It enables the construction of exhaust systems that strike a practical balance between affordability and functionality, ensuring long-term durability. However, it is worth noting that stainless steel is relatively heavier compared to alternative materials. While its density is similar to regular steel, it possesses slightly lower tensile strength. Consequently, stainless steel has limitations in creating high-performance exhaust components and may yield a somewhat subdued and less vibrant exhaust note compared to other materials.

INCONEL

When it comes to ensuring durability and heat resistance, Inconel 625 emerges as the ultimate choice extensively employed in the aerospace industry. This exceptional material finds extensive application in the manufacturing of critical components, particularly exhaust turbine blades for high-performance jet engines. Inconel is notably favored in Formula One exhaust systems and has been selected by manufacturers involved in prestigious hypercar projects such as the McLaren P1 and Aston Martin 177. The advantages of Inconel lie in its high tensile strength and excellent thermochemical stability. With a tensile strength comparable to that of titanium, it achieves an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio. This allows for the use of thin sidewall materials while maintaining structural integrity, facilitating the production of lightweight components that demonstrate exceptional resistance to fatigue over extended periods. However, working with Inconel presents challenges due to its difficult machinability and specific welding requirements, demanding specialized skills and time-consuming techniques. Additionally, the unique properties and specialized manufacturing processes associated with Inconel contribute to its higher cost as a raw material.

HEAT SHIELD

For customers prioritizing effective heat management, Kline offers meticulously designed heat protection solutions crafted from embossed stainless steel sheets. Each heat shield undergoes careful creation and welding by skilled artisans to ensure optimal performance. By integrating these heat shields onto the manifolds, heat soak is reduced, scavenging is improved, and overall performance is enhanced, leading to a cooler engine temperature.
