In the Ford application, that relay carries the whole starter motor current (150A~200A) so the terminals are big studs that attach typical huge battery cable ends with 35 mm^2 wire. In this application, it only carries the solenoid current (~10A), and the built-in switch at the back end of the solenoid still carries the big starter motor current = those wires only need to be the same size as the stock 2.5 mm^2 wire.

ok steve, thx for the explanation.
I thought the complete current will go over this relay. so it is only for the starter solenoid to get more "power" and for this the 2,5 mm² is ok.

Years ago you could buy TRs in the $40k range so yes, they have gone up.

Fchat one is a Cavallino award winning car and it's black. Meticulous owner. Private sale BTW.

Personally, I think the 512M is a better buy than the 512TR.

The market softened a bit overall, but the US 512M's are the most exclusive cars out of the TR family,
so they'll do better than any other factory TR and hang with the Lambo's.

Here's a US sale before they took off: https://cars.bonhams.com/auction/26887/lot/38/1995-ferrari-f512-m-vin-zffva40b000101340/#photos

3 years ago on July 1st, I was on my way to get the 269k one. Got a msg that someone bought it that morning.
Was resold for about 400k not long after.

Thanks...this too a Euro sold Bonhams 2022....simply put, is the asking price for the FChat listed , one of THE 75 , in a desirable/rare color ...Nero/Tan, meticulous owner and so on....(23k miles too don't forget) Fair value or Market Dreaming.?.

Some feel that the Euro's are "better cars", eg able to order CF race seats....USA models with "mouse tracks" thus cannot use CF seats as belt system will not work. Mechanically , to my knowledge, all identical...exhaust maybe more restrictive USA cars.?? This can take on the whole "Euro v USA Daytona" lore of years ago....claims of more hp, larger header diameter in Euro Daytonas etc etc.

Best & continued info welcomed !

The 512M record is for a blk one: https://rmsothebys.com/auctions/mo22/lots/r0002-1995-ferrari-f512-m/

As far as EU / US, personal pref., but obviously, the US models are considerably more rare.

IMO black interior with carbon seats is perfect, with tan a close 2nd.

Here's a gray one with tan interior: https://www.autosportdesigns.com/vehicles/390/1995-ferrari-512-m-testarossa

An M in this color would be abs. stunning: https://luxurypulse.com/sales/show/5878-ferrari-512-tr

Hey Steve, that engine pic is from my car that I just purchased so was put there by a previous owner. While we have been discussing the bypass in separate conversations, I haven’t yet performed that fix but do I need to remove this relay or just leave as is and do the fuse panel connector bypass? The car is hit or miss on starting right away when cold but even with that relay there it still takes a few turns of the key when hot to get it to turn over. Hoping the bypass ultimately is the cure and will eventually get that done and can report back. Just wasn’t sure if I needed a new solenoid after all considering the relay doesn’t appear to be helping.

Adding the white wire jumper at the fuse-relay panel will be beneficial whether you keep the added relay or not.

My offhand memory summary of this TR starting problem is that it most often occurs during warm/hot restarting, so, if you're reporting cold starting has the same problem, that's a little different. It's possible that the added relay itself has an issue (although it's not a high current stress situation for that relay), or its added wiring could be flaky (although it appears well done), or it could be the ignition switch itself. You'll need to decide for yourself what you want to do, but my approach would be:

    1. Add the white wire jumper.
    2. Unplug and inspect the 9-pin C11 connector under the coolant expansion tank connector pins for corrosion. Unplug-replug a couple of times to "rewipe" its terminal connections.
    3. Remove the added relay and restore the wiring at the engine to stock. (Will give you a chance to inspect its wiring, and you can always re-add it if you want to.)

If no joy = replace the solenoid with the WAI solenoid.
If still no joy = investigate the ignition switch Pos III behavior.

    JMO.

PS One easy test to do is just unplug-replug the w and y connectors when you are having the problem -- if that helps = strong sign those connections are the problem.

Yes...asking for THE 75 mid 500-650. The old Autosport designs 512m in Canna Di Fucile / Tan sold $681 Az '23.
Generally speaking $600k is the ask for nice(er) USA 512m's. Now, will that hold or ?? "that is the perennial question".

I appreciated your input...me thinks too much, lol

Mine was the same. Brought it to Toni Auto in Maranello, they added an additional relay and I never had any problems since.

Offtopic, but basically not too many 458s have DCT problems, nevertheless it is the same unit as in the F12/812/FF/GTC4. Probably because of the rear engine layout, I don't know for sure, but while on the front engine cars it is almost guaranteed, that you will have problems with the speed sensor or leaking sealant, 458/488 models are more reliable in that area. But anyway, neither a speed sensor replacement or a sealant replacement (these don't have any gaskets) is costing 16K in my opinion. And either if it was, that still shouldn't stop anyone from buying a 458, as it is an awesome machine.

A few of you may recall my Original question...THE 75 v ROW 512M pricing. Look what was just listed BaT yesterday.....the Nero/Tan #44
If I knew how to attach the link I would do so....I'm sure one of you will be able.
Will be an interesting auction & result. Will give an accurate snapshot of current market dynamics . Several ROW 512m's have sold BaT & are listed various sites...with solid high $400's to upper $500's.....not too many "One of THE 75" have been listed nor sold recently. Additionally, RM Monterey has upcoming Giallo/Nero USA model this August .

Turbo-joe; are you able to post the nero/tan '95 512M on BaT here please?
Would be great for the forum (if interested) compare the recent ROW 512m sales with a very well maintained USA model in fantastic colors too (imo).

    Thank you,
    Jack
