Next, checked fan motor by applying 12VDC directly from an external power supply. Fan worked...

Then I pulled the relay, checked all signals to the relay connector terminals, 12V from Battery, GND, 12V from ignition coil to energize relay... all checked out.

Benched checked the relay. It closes when the coil is energized by 12V, however, could not carry the current to run the fan. Bad, dirty contacts.

Very cool. Logical troubleshooting and a low cost fix. Gotta love that!

Is the plastic replacement a Bosch Brand as well . If it’s Bosch , what’s the Bosch part no. It’s usually stamped on the top .

    Thanks in advance ,

You could probably pry the original relay apart and file the contacts.

Just going through this process as my oil fan stopped. I’m getting 12V from ignition coil, but not from any of the other connections. Looking for suggestions on how to trace the 12V wire that goes to battery. It looks like two blue wires that just disappear into a loom of wires into the wheel well area…

I may sound like a broken record, but get a color wiring diagram from member Afterburner. Example pic.

Not at all - much appreciated. I actually just downloaded a wiring diagram. It’s black and white but no matter I’m color blind as a bat. Apparently the 12V power comes from a junction behind the left side of the instrument panel, and shares wiring with the wipers. I did notice the wiper fuse was blown, not sure if that’s related. I’ll have a look tomorrow.

Sorry about your disability, those black and white drawings are almost impossible to trace and sometimes the resolution isn't that good! Good luck!
