I had an annoying rattle and decided to take the door panel off to find it and sort out the window gap:

Adjusting the window was straight forward enough but it seemed like a choice of having a gap in the front or the rear of the window. I think I managed to find the best compromise.

Next up was the rattle which I thought was identified when I disassembled the door panel:

I went on a drive to confirm with the door panel off and it was even worse! After I got home, I realized that it was indeed that bolt and without a loose bolt, the captive nut was able to fully bounce around to make the worst racket I've heard in a car.

Next day I had to coerce my Porsche Indy to recharge the AC and decided to ride back. Probably not an every day sight:

After picking up the car and having functioning AC again, I headed in rush hour traffic to pick up a set of Recaro Pole Position FIA seats and sat behind a straight pipes Lambo for a good bit:

Today, I got the seats installed (working on ordering some custom inserts):

Then Sammy was able to get on with me to upload the new ECU file which dialed down the throttle sensitivity:

As someone else mentioned, doing this in the car was a lot easier but Sammy did warn that there's increased risk of bending pins. I'll take it out tomorrow and hopefully the throttle is closer to Porsches that I'm used to.

In the spirit of "leave it better than you found it" I decided to improve the inline fuse on the 360Trev kit. It previously had a fuse directly soldered to the wires which was a problem if the fuse blew (which it did in my case...my fault). The person handling the kit needs to be able to solder which isn't everyone.

    Before

Soldering two wires together should start with meshing them together then heating the wires directly with the soldering iron and letting the solder melt into the wires. This will create a solid bond that won't break.

Now, any future user of this kit can easily swap in a regular, full size fuse in the event that they blow it by accident.

Wow, is this a kit that Trev offered? I think it’s fair to say that soldering a fuse in line is sort of lazy when an inline fuse holder is so cheap and easy to get. I can see this only being OK in some emergency situations where the car had to get back on the road and it was late at night. Glad to see you corrected the mistake.

I got the replica Challenge mirrors from Exotic Car Gear (not sure if these are the rtuned ones) and door cups in satin weave. Got around to swapping them in since I wanted to move the oem door cups to the 360 Spider to replace the cracked ones.

I was really hoping the door cards did not need to come off but they do...

With the Spider finally back on all four wheels, I took them out and gave them both a bath. Defender was home for a few days after being at G&K for most of the past 7 months and hopefully it will be done next week (had to sort out some codes myself).

When I was looking, they all look the same and I have no clue if the actual company making them is any different. I did have some fitment issues that I'm working through. The mirrors pinch the window and impact window function if tightened too much. Loosening them works and they seem to not move if the window is up but the angle of the mirrors is slightly too inward too. I'm only 5'9 so it's fine for me but if you sit further back, it's unlikely you'll be able to see much more than the car itself in the side mirrors

If anyone has a good known source for aftermarket carbon parts, let me know as I may try some other vendors.

Mirrors look great - how hard was it to install?

your door handles look incredible too. Did you get them redone?

Love the mirrors! If it was mine these 19's would finish it off nicely IMO

The door latches or the passenger door pull?

I actually prefer 18s. I was trying to track down a set of Challenge 18 wheels but the ones available are all either ludicrously expensive are subject to massive tariffs. The starfish are actually pretty light (challenge only like 1lb lighter per wheel while 19" challenge are meaningfully heavier). The thicker sidewall to me just looks way more motorsport.

The black latches that you pull to open the door from the inside.

Ah yeah, I refinished those with VHT satin black paint. Getting the soft touch stuff off is a royal PITA though. I did these the hard way but then I did the spider by just soaking them in a ziploc bag with acetone. the softtouch actually shrivels off so I think the trick is to find the right balance of exposure time where it doesn't impact the black under paint and you can still paint over that. If you leave it too long, you have to bring it down to bare metal since the integrity of the base coat is compromised at that point.

Adding a toy to the family: 2004 G55 AMG (I seem to be collecting the greatest hits of the 2000s...just need to get my 996 GT3 back )

Dealer actually let me have it for a day so I was able to drive it around and get a feel for it. Surprisingly different to the 2015 G550 and obviously a lot different than the 2021 G63. They only had a naturally aspirated AMG for 2003 and 2004. It's not a ton of horsepower at 360 but it's enough to not feel cumbersome. The M113 engines in these are supposed to be legendary for reliability. The truck itself has a very old school mechanical feel to it that gets numbed out in the later W463 years. People gripe about the suspension stiffness but I find it totally fine, they should experience my Defender. Regardless, it'll probably get a suspension overhaul.... probably Fox adjustables.

My wife was giving me **** for wanting an old one but was dumfounded how many people commented on it when walking by in the 4 hours we drove it around (4 people total).

I daily a 21 G550 (running 22" HRE with 305 square tires and a Fi exhaust) and I absolutely love it. Is my first G, can see why you'd be into the whole range
