hey guys it appears my black key fob is not working (i only have 1 black keyfob no other key fobs) i changed the battery and it lights up fine however the red led light on the keyfob is solid and doesnt flash it does before.. first thing i did was check fuse #74 - its blown i replace it - blows again removed battery - put it in - moment i plug battery back in - blows again the car was fine 2 days ago until i removed the battery terminal - not sure what else could be causing it any suggestions? thank you
My guess is the same as Curt's (as usual, lol). The alarm module has a habit of shorting out once the internal rechargeable battery fails. If that's the problem, it's an easy fix by just replacing the alarm module. It's a DIY, and not too expensive.
Your short might be a result of this. Have you re-checked to see that you didn't re-installed one of the wires on the battery to the incorrect post? I believe the alarm module is attached directly to the battery (more knowledgeable folks will correct me if I am wrong)
I have a similar problem, but different. My red FOB works, the one and only black one does not. Changed the battery, clicked it three times, no response from the car. Any ideas how to get it to work? Try to find the PIN but no luck yet. Thanks
Does the light come on - if so you may have a clone and that could be out of synch and need several hundred presses to resynch - beyond that check any of the many other similar threads here & in technical / 355 / 575 sections for other ideas
The remotes have rolling codes like a garage door opener. If you haven't used the black remote in awhile, it may be out of sync. Just press the button repeatedly until the car responds. If you got the black remote on eBay and it never worked with your car before, it won't ever work unless you have it cloned to your working remotes. Having the PIN won't help you with a non-previously paired remote. You can only use the PIN to pair a new set of remotes, not pair a remote that's not part of the set.
Yes, you can do that. Be sure the PIN is correct before you buy, however. Unless you are the original owner and know the PIN and never been used to pair a new set of remotes, you should test it first by using the PIN to start the car w/o using the remote to disable the immobilizer. When you pair a new set of remotes (you must start with the red one), the new set will apply a new PIN code to the car (from the red remote), so be sure to keep a record of it. The new PIN should be on a print-out with the new set of remotes. If not, send it back.
Thanks, how do u use the pin to start the car? If I use the pin will it have an affect on my black fob?
Do a search for posts on key fobs by author tazandjan and you will find all you need to know about how the remotes work. Using the PIN to start the car won't affect any of the remotes. The explanation for how to start car using the PIN is too long for me to recreate.
Just fixed my black fob after never working after I bought the car. It came with the car and used to work, but during the PPI they found it doesn't work, so I was just using the red fob. Then looking into this a little, I think someone here said if you don't use it for a while it will loose the sequence, or something or other, and you would have to cycle through them.......so I took that as just sitting there with the black fob and pressing the button until it communicated with the car, what did I have to loose? So after about 250 presses of the button on the black fob, it worked, made the connection, now it arms and disarms just like the red.
I can't believe it but this actually just worked for me. My CS wasn't responding to the FOB. Light on FOB works. Alarm light in CVS is flashing. No response from FOB. I press it 300 times in a row standing next to the car and all of a sudden BEEP BEEP. Amazing. I love FChat.
Guys, My usual black fob had been acting up (getting more and more finicky) light was working but would sometimes not turn off the immobiliser. So did the usual change of batteries, but it eventually stopped working completely. The red light was still working but would not deactivate the immobiliser. Tested my other black and red fobs and they worked fine. So found this thread and tried the "press 300 times" solution, and now it works. Amazing.. will let you all know if it fails again. Does anyone have any idea what is going on electronically in the FOB with this solution??
If one of your black fobs is a clone, that is normal. With clones, every time you press the button on one fob, the other gets one press button behind on the rolling codes in the EEPROM. Use one fob 100 times, and the other needs 101 presses to catch up and transmit to the Alarm ECU a rolling code it has not seen before.. If one is not a clone, no clue.
Soooo I'm having a similar issue.....Only have black fob, new battery. Nothing happening when clicking, found fuse 74 blown. Disconnected alarm, replaced fuse. Did NOT reconnect alarm (used to drive like that anyway before replacing alarm a few years back). All good now...light is flashing but still nothing happening when clicking the fob, fuse is still good. Car hasn't been started in awhile but sored in climate controlled garage. What's next to check? And yes, been clicking the thing hundred of times.
