    Hello all,
I am sure this has been covered somewhere before, but I couldn't find it - apologies in advance if this is a dupe.

I have a 1982 308GTSi with a gear oil leak where the "rear diff housing/cover" #105673 mates up with the transmission case. This is on the passenger side and I believe there is no gasket but I've heard I should use Loctite 518 to seal this back up once it is off and cleaned up. The question is - is it simple enough to just unbolt this housing, clean the flanges and reinstall, or do I need to look out for an explosion of parts falling out when I remove this housing? I can't tell from parts diagrams what will happen. If there is a writeup somewhere please point me in the right direction.

    Thank you

Wish I could help man, but as I've never done this I'm not qualified to answer and don't want to give advice that's probably wrong.

Thanks for responding - I got in touch with someone who's done this before and he said there would be no problem just unbolting the housing, pulling it off and reinstalling without parts falling out or any special clearances to worry about. This is the housing that has no gasket, so I'm told Loctite 518 is the right thing to use for resealing if anyone else has a gear oil leak coming from this spot.

The second part of this link has some helpful perspective on changing that seal.

    https://www.birdman308.com/service/cv_joints/cv_joint.htm

Curil T is what is suggested for that cover's gasketless sealing, and what I used when I did mine.

Are you sure your leak is at the casing, usually it is the seal itself that would be the leak source.

Thank you Moysiuan! I don’t have the housing off yet so you may be right that it’s the seal that went bad causing this; I already sourced a new one and will be ready to replace it if that’s the culprit. Thank you for the link!
