First 787 Dreamliner crash: Air India

That doesn't make sense. Pulling back the engines like that wouldn't shut them down so electrical power would not be lost. The RAT was deployed and the survivor described electrical failure based on the lights changing in the cabin (green and white for emergency).

I remember that incident and recall that Boeing created a fix to keep that from happening again.

 

Some good news out of India. They have been able to successfully download the data from both the CVR and FDR after indicating they were having difficulty. In theory .....they should know by now what happened in those 34 seconds. As to them releasing any data......I'm sure that will happen eventually.......

 

I have a flight Saturday night on a 787 and I hope if it is something that affects all planes they can let people know sooner rather than later...

 

It is a great airplane. I believe if it was an aircraft issue.....the FAA would have published a Notice shortly after the boxes were downloaded. The longer it goes.....the more likely it is a mistake was made in the cockpit.

 

Also issue due to improper mtx, as Air India had 787's on the ground in Delhi a few years ago for over 6 months. No one qualified to put back in service. Let me just say I would not fly on Air India ever. I work in the airline industry.

 

Does anyone know about British Airways issues with their 787 fleet? Or is Flig Avia doing their usual anti-Boeing exaggeration?

 

This pilot goes through it point and point and says its most likely pilot error in shutting down the wrong engine.

 

So I think it was done on purpose. I posted here on the last page the initial report said they had a jump seat rider. Those fuel cutoff switches could be reached by a jump seater. Or it could have been done by the FO or captain. The way they changed the wording on the initial report from jump seater onboard to captain and FO were flying the aircraft, and no answer on the jump seater made me suspicious.

Who was in the cockpit at the time of the crash. It could have been a mistake by the crew but I bet it was not. Hard to prove.

I am sure they have a good idea, just have not released it yet to the public. Either a real bad mistake by the crew or someone shut the fuel switches off on purpose.

At this point I think so. They have room for 4 people in the cockpit of a 787, normally 3 crew members and a jump seat. Some airlines might have more. Don't know the metal state of the PC or FO, but who knows who was in the jump seat if they indeed had a jump seater??

 

Flight crew information and listed. Still nothing about a jump seater. Could have been an error by the newspaper reporting. The investigation will hopefully sort that out. The question still remains who turned off the fuel switches.

Only if it was declared out-loud by whomever did it.

 

Well sure - but assuming that at least two other people in cockpit would see it happen, I'd surely expect some screaming "What in the bloody **** are you doing?" - unless everyone "in the room" was all in on it. I would hardly picture them saying nothing.

More 787 problems:

 

If they reported all the Airbus issues with the same passion the internet would be overloaded. I will say from personal experience the 787 is a finicky aircraft. But also ground breaking and amazing.

 

I think it will come down to the simplest, most likely, answer: they lost the left engine on rotation and mistakenly shut off the right engine. The investigators are just trying to work out how to save face for the Indian airline industry.

 

Engine parameters have been downloaded and no issues were recorded with either motor. It was not an engine failure.

 

Internet BS clickbait. There are literally thousands of pilots who love the 787 and have no problem stepping into one tomorrow.
