...And I like it! Most of the time I just reader of this fine chat and if you all would be interested I could write and show some pictures from stuff I do for my cars. Please note; my writen language is not particularly good... ...In this weekend: From my euro 308 I took front bumper out I made mold from it and made one new bumber out of it: Ready to trim and make to fit This was only for practice, as I like to try glass fiber as material and this was my first try.
Previous weekends I try out how to make small plastic parts: For start, I had common problem with my -77 US GTB, a proken heat lever. Absolutely awful desing! So I made one new, with metal reinforcement, in picture without crome and fresh out of the mold:
For GTBi I made new Spal fans to fit, using method I found from forum: http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u84/unknow82/projekti/308flekti.jpg Something I made my self: I very sick of these stupid FIAT parts; Mondial stuck rear window fix Actually Mondial rear window lifts are use in larger Fiat car late 1970´s, they work fine, but when it gets twisted small space in Ferrari, it makes the small plastic clip to jump of that you can found inside motor asembly, here is my fix: This is how you get it out: http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u84/unknow82/projekti/ikkuna1.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u84/unknow82/projekti/ikkuna2.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u84/unknow82/projekti/ikkuna3.jpg and there it is: http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u84/unknow82/projekti/ikkuna4.jpg Next you find window lift that looks similar: http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u84/unknow82/projekti/ikkuna5.jpg And make it to acsept holes in car to bolt it in. Motor I decided to place here: http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u84/unknow82/projekti/ikkuna6.jpg next to make some fine adjustment and slam it all together.
Today I got new Mondial cabrio rear window adjusted. Only draw back is that power window from Volvo V40/S40 are too fast, that is when you compare original front windows... After winter battery is so low that original rear window on right side does not even come down and that one I opened few years ago. Now after two days of using Volvo window regulator is still going strong. If any of you need to make this convert to your Mondial cabrio, you need Volvo FRONT window regulators, if I understan right; right hand side front goes to your Monndial rear left. Courve is just spot on, but you do not have any space to spare, it is very tight fit.
There you go: http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u84/unknow82/projekti/ikkuna7.jpg You can fit it by usin no new holes in car. From previous pictures you can see that I have drill new hole to Volvo window regulator lower bracket and took holding pin from original regulator.
This is a fantastic project. I had always hoped someone would find a modern regulator that could be grafted into the 308 front doors. I assume the mondial has similar pulley and roller design for the front windows?
Hi, I have an 1988 3.2 and both my Rear windows are stuck in the down position but they both worked a month ago just fine. I checked the fuse seems okay, tested the switches in the back by plugging the front door windows to them and they worked just fine. From reading some of the threads, I went through the side vents and top rear window opening. With the limited amount of space to work with, I was able to grab the motor wires with a coat hanger. I connected the motor wires directly to a 12v battery and tried to zap it back into life but to no avail. No movement what so ever. I can't believe both motors could have gone bad at the same time, especially when they were working every time I used them. I'm tempted to unbolt the whole assembly and try to see why the motors weren't working, but was wondering if anyone had alternatives: 1) Recommend a person or company that can rebuild the motor 2) Find a replacement motor/assembly from Fiat 3) Replace the whole thing with a manual hand crank Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Bumping this thread to see if the original poster has any photos of the Volvo mechanism installation. I bought two of the Volvo mechanisms. Would like to see how this guy made this install work, I also sent him a p.m. Alden
I wonder, has anyone ever completed an analog mod using manual winding windows? That would be cool and solve all these problems.
I It probably wouldn't be too difficult, there is an access hole on the door for the motor assembly (in case the motor fails.)
It would be a very cool mod; the early cars are analog in every way, so it would be fitting to have manual windows. Aesthetically, it would look great as well. Also, you'd probably save a decent amount of weight (and headaches).
I don't think you've ever taken a close look at a manual wind window regulator, finding one that would fit/function would probably be as difficult as this Volvo mechanism boondoggle. You won't save any weight, they're still somewhat complex and it wouldn't simply be replacing the motor with a crank, because the problems also occur with the cables, screw drives and other parts of the mechanism, depending on which type you have, they bind up, unless they're regularly maintained. But, hey! I hope someone gives it a try! Alden
The reason the 308 windows have issues seems to be three-fold. 1. The old grease gets sticky and needs to be replaced. 2. The pulley mechanism is very elaborate 3. The electrical power connections to the window motors isn't so hot. For a manual crank system (at least the ones I've worked with) the cabling is VERY simple compared to the Ferrari system. It basically comprises a triangle... crank one point, two cables (sheathed) go out to either end of a metal bracket that is the window run. I've NEVER had to maintain any kind of manual crank window to get it to go up and down. Unless the cable snaps (never had that happen actually) or the crank mechanism snaps (I have had that happen) The 308 system gets grimed up and has many points of failure... it's just not the best. But I'm no engineer so maybe that was the best they could make it for that size door?
Umm, yea. You say you've never had to maintain any kind of hand crank mechanism unless... The crank mechanism snaps. If you want to call out the simplicity of this hand crank operation then grab one and make it work, post some photos and tell us how to do it, please. Alden
Doubtful. He's not logged into QRZ since May 1, 2023. Worth a shot I guess.... doesn't hurt anything. Jedi

Alden
I haven't, if you don't believe it that's not really my problem now is it? When I had a crank snap it was actually the handle, not the mechanism. The pot metal after 50 years cracked and broke. If you think the window mechanism in a 308 is simple. Then I would submit you've never opened the door on any other car. I don't think anyone would disagree that it's a fairly elaborate setup. But who knows maybe I'm wrong. I didn't say I could make a hand crank work in the 308. Perhaps you need to read my post again? Or maybe you're just being combative to be combative... I don't have time for that nonsense.
