I am soliciting a list of experienced indie mechanics. I have done this once before for the major service on my 1988.5 TR with 18K miles. I unfortunately live out in the boonies. When I picked the car up a couple of months ago after finally demanding that all work should be done after a year and a half. he had the car ready and waiting and fee was reasonable. However it was a Saturday afternoon and once I finished my lunch and started the 120 mile trip home I realized it was damn near impossible to get the car into first gear at each red light I hit. I should have driven it back to him but after a year and a half I just wanted it back in my garage. I did call him and complain and to his credit he came to my house (I have a lift) and he first bled the clutch, then adjusted the shifter linkage, then changed the gear oil.......maybe it works a little better. I am ready to spring for a new mechanic. The car is no fun to drive.

Florida is a pretty big place maybe give a location. If you are north you could send it to Wade Williams at Merlin in Atlanta.

If you're near the South East, people swear by Tim Stafford. I've never used him, but he's "the guy" in my area (Miami). He's in very high demand and has a long waiting list. I know you said indie, but I've also heard good things about the Ft Lauderdale Ferrari.

Bill Fulkrod at Speed Works is in O'Steen near Sanford if that helps. He's very accomplished, and has diagnostic equip up to and including the 458. He also supports a few Challenge guys as well. He's done a lot of my BBi work as well as my 308. 954-536-4308

I'll give a second vote for Tim Stanford in Fort Lauderdale. He's done work on my car and been flawless, honest and reliable, although you might have to wait to get in his shop. I live in Central Florida about 4 and 1/2 hours away from his shop and it was worth having the car transported to him to get my recent major done.

What's your location in Florida, and can you tell us more information? Maybe identify the mechanic that didn't have any luck repairing your car after such a long period of time, we'd like to know and maybe steer clear of him.

Weren't you the guy a few years ago looking for $5k belt service without removing the engine? Sounds like you got what you paid for...
