Old Member- Return to Autosports

I was a member of the old F-chat at least two generations ago, posting under the name Whart, which is an acronym for my name. I had a bunch of Ferraris, among other exotics and high performance cars. Like many of you, life has had some interesting twists and turns.
I retired early and eventually left the East Coast, moving to Austin, TX beginning part-time in 2012 and relocating full-time at the beginning of 2017. I had, by then, sold off all the cars and bikes.
But, the bug bit me again. I started to buy bikes, and then decided I'm getting too old for that. The 3wheeler Morgan always intrigued me and though I preferred the look of the rebooted V-Twin, bought a new Super 3, which is a blast to drive- very visceral. In connection with my renewed interest in motorsports I ran into Randy, who has Petrol Lounge in Austin and was also a longtime member. He and I were reminiscing and that prompted me to sign up again (couldn't find any credentials from my past existence here).
I'm sure that there are still some long time members from back in the day, including some of the usual suspects.
The years have been kind to me:

 

Sure. As I remember, I was a Super Duper Member back in the day, so that would be great. And since I'm now almost a neighbor, we should hook up-- I get to Dallas periodically. Thanks for the warm welcome back!

Thanks! It's like my world without motorsports was lacking, and here we are-- yeah, a lot has changed but it is nice to "go home again," right?

It's funny- I have a close friend- really a mentor-- who is near 90 and I think I've lost more brain cells than he has. So, I don't feel old most of the time-yeah, sometimes, my cultural references are dated, but I try to keep up with the younger generations- who are interesting-- different for sure, but I've found aging to be a generally positive experience- I'm less stressed, and roll with things a little more. Thankfully, have not suffered anything grievous- sadly, knew people who lived clean and died young. I guess some of it is just the great roulette wheel, no? (Maybe some genes, but a lot of luck too!)

 

That's cool. I've seen some of the younger folks I knew who are now in the peak of their professions and lives and its gratifying.

 

No problem. After all, it's been almost 11 years!

Maybe having too much fun? I dunno, I stopped drinking decades ago and it's a blur for me too, though I remember having a good time. Don't even remember what I was driving at the time. It's funny, out of all the Ferraris, new and "used," the one I miss is the 512BBi- despite the plasticy 70's-80's interior, it was the most visceral. Of course, I didn't own any of the great '50s or '60s models. In retrospect, those were cheap at the time. Ah, well, time moves on. Glad I'm back!
