No worries. We are concerned about vigilante acts, with us as a target, or by targeting someone else. I don't have a blocker or intend to get one, but mathmatically speaking, your conversation is not worth the extra .0000125% of risk I'm assumed to take. Thats 10 times as likely as being struck by lightning and I've come too close for comfort twice in my 28 years. Poor Bill has his stories with cell phone as have I.

The woman who pulled out of a blind intersection into traffic, travelled 10ft at 5mph and came to a full stop was on a phone but guess who got the blame for the accident? Moi. Because I didn't stop in time despite she violated my right of way. $8k in damage to my car, all cosmetic. It was close to being totalled out, I'm sure.

Just because people can't for the most part drive properly shouldn't mean we should allow them more distractions! :) I will live after an encounter with a rude person armed with a cell phone, but not with a vehicle too.

Actually there is one thing that I think would classify a cell phone as a boon to man and that is being able to use it to report a drunk driver or road rager.
One was used here locally to report a drunk hit and run killing a guy on a motorcycle. Some kids tracked the guy until the WSP could corner him. A really tragic event.

I completely agree. I have a cell phone, but for the most part, it stays in my car, and I rarely use it.

You are so right about etiquette. There's nothing I hate more than being in a restaurant next to someone who is yapping away on their cell phone, speaking loud enough so that everyone can hear them. The worst has to be the walkie talkie feature, where everyone around them gets to hear their conversation, and that little beep you hear before they start their sentence. My stepdaughter just got one with that feature. The first time she used it in the house was her last time.

Then there are the idiots cruising in the left lane at the speed limit, just yapping away, totally oblivious to what is going on around them. They think it is their God given right to be in that left lane, as long as they are doing the speed limit. Annoying as hell!

I have one, my wife has one and my 11 year old daughter has one and they are indespensible in my practice as well as keeping in touch with my family as needed. I use mine to contact clients as needed especially in the evening so they won't get my home phone number on their caller ID, as well as to stay in touch with my secretary when I'm in court or depositions. My wife needs one for safety as well as to keep in touch with me when she is out and about. And, since my 11 year old spends half her life at the barn, she needs it in case of an emergency and to let us know when she is ready to come home. I use Bluetooth hands free while driving as a safety and convenience measure though. Needless to say I would be lost without one.

I agree w/ you 100% Why in the world does anyone that age need a cell phone. Do they need to set up their play dates w/ their friends?

Other than making fun calls, I find cell phones are a good way to be ignored. Such as when people are handing out pamphlets on the st. or collecting money, put the cell phone to your ear and pretend to talk; they will almost always ignore you.

People have become dependent on them, I found I was much more stress free on a vacation w/o my cell phone. No worries in the world.

I do not answer my phone when I am driving. That is why we have Voicemail on phones to leave a message if the convo is important to talk about once I have enough time to stop and return thier call.
I hate it when people are not even doing the speed limit in the left lane and just yapping away on their cell phone. Also don't get me started on people not using there Signal light. GM , Ford and all the companies put a signal light on your car to use for a reason , not just for looks. If I was a cop I would pull them over and revoke their license for a YEAR !!
Just visualize using your turn signal when switching lanes (and not wrecking everyone) and not using your cell phone while driving - F World peace !! Sorry had to rant.
