Hey gang, I just picked up a 2015 California T. TL;DR: Is it normal for the interior trunk area to be *extremely* hot after driving?

We threw a couple overnight bags and a suitcase in the trunk and headed out on a roadtrip. We drove for ~10 hours today, in hot weather (90-100F).

We stopped for dinner after dark and then unloaded the car after about an hour (and didn't turn the car back on after dinner - hotel was right next door). When taking the bags out of the trunk, the luggage was very warm to the touch. Laptops inside the luggage were extremely hot. Deodorant melted, etc. - even after an hour at dinner sitting it didn't get back to down to ambient temps.

The car is equipped with the HS Sport Exhaust.

Is this normal? Is there an exhaust leak or bad cat or something going on? This felt super alarming - trying to figure out how big of an issue this is.

    Thank you!

It is red (rosso corsa metallic), so not Nero or anything that I would think has a particularly pronounced sun/temperature effect.

Close to 100° weather all over Texas yesterday, if you had just left your luggage and accessories in the trunk, it very well could’ve reached the temperature required to melt deodorant without even driving the car.

….while the truck is pretty well insulated, you may consider that the gearbox is located in the rear of the car, and after 10 hours of driving it would also create some level of heat.

I feel a combination of Texas heat and all day road trip would result in what you described

if you had no warning messages or malfunction error, showing up, I would keep the laptops and deodorant in the driver compartment to be safe

I love that you drove the car for 10 hours, it has long been my Ferrari of choice when I lead owners rallies!

Safe travels and enjoy the drive,

    Steve

In addition to ambient sunlight, the exhaust system has heat sources close to the trunk floor. One may feel the trunk floor temperature to learn about it. Then pack trunk with this knowledge to avoid heat damage to items in trunk. Rear seat area can be used for cooler result.

Thanks all for the feedback, I appreciate the input! For part 2 of our journey today we ended up moving most of the luggage into the passenger compartment. It did seem to get a little less hot today (I think our average speed was also lower today), but definitely can feel some heat in the middle part of the trunk.

Full trip report coming soon - thanks again.
