We just watched. It is worth it for everyone to see. It is up there with Ford vs. Ferrari and Ferrari, it isn't anywhere near the classics of Le Mans or Grand Prix.

The first 30 minutes and the last 15 minutes are pretty good, the middle 2 hours aren't. There is no good story (the board members) or no good love story (just a hint with the technical advisor). The racing is pretty good for a movie! I thought the situations and simulations were realistic enough real fans wouldn't scoff.

I personally didn't like blaming him for the Senna death or the fire scene getting out of his car and running to the rescue (I know it made good Hollywood though). Was that the Bandini crash where another driver got out trying to rescue him?

Honestly, 80% of the movie was watching a bad F1 race where I would rather be watching a real F1 race, that was boring.

If the F1 race on the big screen was boring, then it was accurate filmmaking ;)

I thought the Daytona piece was remarkable.

I agree, funny enough Daytona and Baja were more exciting. Again, I loved the beginning and end.

Well worth watching. It's amazing how physically divergent Christian Bale can be in his roles.

You are thinking of Roger Williamson's fatal accident when David Purley tried to rescue him. Similarly drivers came to the rescue of Niki Lauda at Nurburgring--Brett Lunger, Harald Ertl and others.

    Saw the movie.

Threw my F1 knowledge out the window to be more objective.

Loved the movie. Loved Sonny Hayes character in F1 and how he sees the media in F1.

    Yeah, it's entertaining.

As of yesterday, the movie made $144 million....that's global numbers btw.

I really enjoyed it! The track filming was as amazing as expected, it really grabs you, especially as I always sit front row center. There was more of a plot than I expected (I had very low expectations for that aspect) and the actors were excellent except perhaps Idriss, a bit wooden. Pitt is just amazingly good and it turns out it is the best viewership/income start of any of his films, ever.

Negatives? I would say a few too many crashes and one or two other things but it would involve spoilers.

What is amazing is that press critics, the general public AND enthusiasts love it (except some green anti car journalists and the most blinkered, misguided, ice cold, humorless car guy types who don't understand this is FICTION, Hollywood entertainment: hello?!). It is rare for a film to get such a consensus and this will attract a huge new audience to the sport.

IMDB is rating it at 7,9; that is VERY high.

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt16311594/

I am going to go see it again this week but in Imax; I normally only go twice for James Bond films and I did for Basic instinct back in 1992 as I liked glamorous smart aleck Sharon Stone juuuust a little bit;-)

What struck me in the theater was to see two teenage girls watching in full Ferrari gear, new fandom.

It's not just about Ford vs Ferrari but also about Shelby vs Ford (1 Ford executive) whom doesn't like Ken Miles.

I really did like most of the racing scenes although there is the common expectation and comments that real F1 fans could be critical of it. Most of it did a great job of making it realistic and holding true to the sport.

EXCEPT I didn't care for the otherwise likeable Sonny Hayes resorting to "Plan C" frequently when the race wasn't going well for the team. How many times did he do that? Seemed like at least 3-5 times. That wasn't realistic, that wasn't respectful to the sport, that didn't go along with making Sonny likeable. Yes there are team tactics in F1 racing, but can anyone tell me real occurrences of a driver or team on purpose crashing or purposely putting debris on the track just to take advantage of a safety car? Yes, happens multiple times every Sunday with NASCAR, but I don't think it is common at all in F1.

It's happened once in F1 with Piquet Jr and Flavio Briatore-->"Crashgate" where Alonso(team-mate) won the race. Briatore, at the time, was banned from F1.....until a couple of years ago where he is now accepted within the paddock and is currently running his "old" team.

It's Hollywood so it's entertainment. Sonny Hayes "win at all costs" attitude.

It was an inglorious moment for Michael Schumacher on this day at Monaco in 2006. The Ferrari driver was found guilty of deliberately obstructing his colleagues in the final minutes of qualifying. The German, who was on provisional pole but with other drivers going potentially faster, purposefully parked his car at the exit of Rascasse, pretending a brush with the barriers and stalling his engine. The yellow flags came out and the field were denied their final effort.

I will say this Rob with re: Sonny Hayes crashing into people and using the SC. He mentioned in the movie why he was doing that:

    1) It makes him look "reckless" on the track SO Sonny set a precedent to all drivers that drive near him to back off. Sound familiar? Max was like that in his younger years in F1 and drivers got the hint when around Max to be extra careful. That notion holds true today

    2) It also puts the focus on Sonny Hayes while Pearce gets away scott-free since no one will be focused on Pearce.

F1 is a very enjoyable film. The funniest things are No Qualifying and that a team actually listens to a drivers request regarding tires or strategy. lol

I love how the film pokes fun at the journo's and media. Pearce is like Hamilton when it comes to that side of business for most of the film. Sonny Hayes is the complete opposite like Max is or Kimi Raikkonen when it comes to the journo's or social media.

Will see it next week with my daughter. I am always surprised unexpectedly, by ALL the racing movies I have seen,
since Elvis, to this new one.

Mostly plot less, kinda corny, some incredibly so, but it was the 60's and before.
Even 'Herbie' was entertaining (terrible flic) but the cars on the track were nothing less than great fun to watch.

    Regards,
    Alberto
