Hello I have my 612 stored in a club in Barcelona (Spain) and I don't take it out very often even though I have the battery plugged into the mains. Is it bad to keep it stationary for several months? How often do you think it is advisable to take the car out for a drive? I will soon have to change the battery. Which one do you recommend please? Thanks.
Every day. Seriously it is fine if it is every few months, but as flash32 stated, do at least 20 miles. You want to make sure than any moisture in the engine is burned off and not allowed to condense and mix with the oil.
6 months is certainly longer than I would want to go, but you would probably be fine provided you don’t let the fuel get too old. A full tank will last years if you’re only doing 20 miles every few months.
For the battery - Varta Silver AGM, 95ah, 800 cca, is the go to battery in Europe. These cars are nearly 20 years old (and some are). If you want to have confidence to jump in it and head on a roadtrip to the beach or the mountains you need to drive it every few weeks and get some autoroute miles in everytime to let everything warm up and get exercised without too much stress. Leaving these cars for months without use is a great way to not enjoy the car, but rather chase issues constantly. Of course this is the opinion of a guy who drove more than 50k kms in his 612 over the last 13 months. Bill Image Unavailable, Please Login
I will be in Barcelona in November. I had an '05 612. DM me the address and leave the key under the front seat and I will take her out for 20 miles and burn the carbon of the pistons for ya!! I would get it out every few months for sure - and beware of out dated tires.
I couldn't agree more, I have close to 50K on my 599 still with the original clutch. I am getting close to a new clutch but after 50K am I going to complain?? Yes I drive the car regularly, not so much in the snow and cold. But in the winter I start it every week and roll it around the storage garage. I love the car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
